Euthanasia Reason - Reason for euthanasia:Max initially demonstrated significant behavioral improvement with consistent walks, enrichment, and playgroup participation. His kennel behavior had improved substantially, and he was previously able to approach staff calmly, solicit attention, and participate appropriately in playgroups. Based on this progress, he was reduced to a Level 3 designation on 7/9/26 while remaining Rescue Only/Qualified 501(c)(3) pending continued behavioral assessment. Unfortunately, Max's recent behavior has deteriorated. During playgroup on 8/17/26, Max was described as unpredictable and less tolerant of male dogs. Although he initially engaged appropriately, he invited a puppy to play and then overreacted when the puppy attempted to engage with him. Max muzzle-punched the dog, latched onto his neck, and shook him. He required significant intervention to disengage and was subsequently recommended for muzzle work during future playgroups due to his unpredictable aggression toward unknown triggers. His kennel behavior has also begun to regress. On 8/17/26, while staff were inspecting his kennel bars, Max began snapping and jumping high toward the staff member, prompting a caution warning. Despite periods of improvement and extensive efforts to provide enrichment, walks, and socialization, Max is showing a return of concerning aggressive behaviors both in his kennel and during playgroup interactions. His recent unpredictable aggression, combined with his regression in kennel behavior, presents an ongoing safety concern for staff, volunteers, and other animals. Given his behavioral history, recent escalation, and inability to maintain consistent improvement within the shelter environment, euthanasia is being recommended.
