Princess is an adoptable female Labrador Retriever looking for a home at Los Angeles County - Baldwin Park in Baldwin Park, California. She is fully grown and medium in size. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. Princess A5784929 (Intact) was initially resting on her bed but stood up with a calm demeanor when the runner arrived. She was hesitant about the leash, requiring some coaxing before allowing it to be placed on her. Once leashed, Princess exited the kennel on her own, making her way to the catch pen with a strong pull on the leash. She appeared nervous, with her hackles raised as she passed through the kennel environment. Inside the catch pen, Princess was collared and leashed without issue; however, she was reactive toward the other dogs, barking and muzzle-punching the fence. As a result, an attempt to place a muzzle on her was unsuccessful, as she repeatedly pulled away and refused to settle. Instead, Princess was then leash-guided into the yard, where she was kept on leash while being slowly introduced to the other dogs. However, she avoided interacting with them, appearing uncomfortable in their presence. Princess was eventually allowed to roam freely and began exploring the environment while continuing to keep her distance from the other dogs. She preferred to interact with the handlers instead, occasionally jumping playfully to solicit affection. She appropriately signaled for personal space from the other dogs, flashing her teeth when they came too close to her. For the remainder of the session, Princess was able to coexist peacefully in the yard, tolerating the other dogs from a distance. Once the session concluded, she remained in the yard to begin her handling assessment. Princess would benefit from a home without other dogs and confidence-building training. The handler was able to perform a full evaluation without incident, only showing concern when her hind legs and tail were handled. This caused Princess to close her mouth and turn her head towards the handler, observing with a concern gaze. The rest of her body displayed a tucked tail and ears slightly back. Princess was more tolerant with handling of her ears, mouth, abdomen, and front legs. Once the session concluded, she was returned to her kennel without issue. Princess could benefit from slow introductions, as this may allow her to gradually become comfortable with people.
