A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.' Boz was at the back of the kennel with a tense body, hunched posture, ears back, concerned eyes, and a tucked tail. He would not approach the front of the kennel, so the runner stepped into the kennel and moved slowly to leash him. He required coaxing and gentle pressure on the leash to exit the kennel. He walked nicely by the runner's side while bypassing the other kennels, and was easy to collar while pressing his head into the corner with an uncomfortable demeanor. In the catch pen, his body was neutral, his gaze was neutral, and his tail was neutral. He entered the yard, and bypassed the other dogs without greeting them. He hid I. The corner of the yard, warily moved away whenever the handler approached him. He did not engage in play with the other dogs, keeping to himself as much as possible. He had a timid demeanor, but was able to coexist in a small group of calm dogs. Boz is tolerant of the other dogs, has a low energy level, and does not have a playstyle at this time.
