Animal ID: A5737024 Date Admitted to County Care: 2025-11-05T00:00:00 Animal Type: DOG Availability Status: Ready to go home Primary Breed: GERM SHEPHERD Primary Color: BROWN Sex: Male Size: Weight: 63 Age: 7 years 8 months Description Meet Kooper, a gentle and easygoing boy who just wants a calm place to feel safe and understood. πΆβ¨ He was easy to retrieve, collar, and leash, and once in the yard, he greeted the other dogs politely with a relaxed body posture. Kooper preferred to follow the dogs quietly rather than play, giving appropriate corrections when he didn?t want to engage. He enjoyed soft pets from handlers and coexisted peacefully with everyone around him. π During his handling assessment, Kooper stayed calm and cooperative, allowing a full exam with a soft gaze, low relaxed tail, open-mouth pant, and slightly-back ears showing gentle uncertainty but no stress. He showed no concerning behavior and simply needs slow introductions, continued socialization, and a calm environment where he can grow confidence at his own pace. πΏπΎ November 13, 2025 E25-089861 NEW ASSESSMENT DOWNEY A5737024 The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out?or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. Kooper A5737024 (Altered) was easily retrieved from his kennel and led to the catch pen, where he was collared and leashed without issue. Kooper was allowed into the yard where he exchanged greetings with the dogs, displaying a relaxed body posture. He followed the dogs around the yard, though he did not engage in play with them. Kooper was appropriate with his corrections, letting the other dogs know he was not interested in engaging in play. When near the handlers, he allowed himself to be petted. For the rest of the session, Kooper coexisted peacefully with everyone around him. He remained in the yard to begin his handling assessment. Kooper could benefit from continued socialization in a yard with calm dogs, where he could interact at his own pace and gradually develop his social skills. The handler was able to conduct a full evaluation without incident. Kooper remained calm while his ears, mouth, stomach, tail, and legs were handled. He exhibited a neutral body posture, with ears slightly back, an open-mouth pant, a soft gaze, and a low, relaxed tail. Once the session concluded, he was returned to his kennel without issue. Kooper showed no concerning behavior during his assessment; however, a slow introduction is recommended, allowing him to become comfortable around people. He may benefit from a calm environment, as this could help Kooper to adjust more comfortably.
