A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out?or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.? Jasper approached the handler and sat leaning against the barrier soliciting petting from them. He was easily leashed and jumped on the handler playfully upon exiting the kennel. Jasper was taken to the catch pen and was easy to collar and leash soliciting petting during the process. Jasper greeted the dogs at the barrier eagerly and was allowed into the play yard. Jasper displayed a loose wiggly body, loose tail wag, open mouth pant, natural ear set, and soft eyes. Jasper exchanged play bows and immediately started to run around the yard and tried to find playmates. He was very forward with his approach getting into other dogs? personal space quickly. At times he overwhelmed the dogs and was easy to steer by the handlers. After some time, Jasper appeared to settle in and played appropriately. He participated in play chase and playful wrestling at times vocal while playing. At times Jasper continued to overwhelm some of the calmer dogs when trying to play and was still easy to steer. Jasper occasionally took breaks to approach the handlers for engagement. He jumped on them affectionately licking the handler?s face. Jasper could get ?mouthy? when seeking/receiving attention. He applied minimal pressure and was easily steered using firm verbal corrections. Jasper continued to play for the remainder of the play session. Jasper maintained a social and playful demeanor with a push/pull play style. Jasper could benefit from basic manners training and further socialization.
