Socks

Socks is an adoptable male Black Labrador Retriever looking for a home at Riverside County Animal Services-Riverside in Jurupa Valley, California. He is a young adult and large in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 2 days left, listed due to behavior. Adopting Socks, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Transferdas@rivco.org Located At: Riverside County Animal Control - Riverside Shelter Description: I am a male, 68.00 lbs, black and white Pit Bull Terrier and Labrador Retriever. Age: The shelter staff think I am about 10 months old. STAFF OBSERVATIONS 07/21/26 Took dog into play yard. Dog does well on leash but does pull. Once in play yard, dog became loose and wiggly while soliciting attention from handler. Likes to play with tennis balls. Dog jumped on handler multiple times. No problems re-kenneling. Currently has a spayed female kennel mate. 07/22/26 Dog participated in playgroup today. Dog was observed giving appropriate greetings. 07/24/26 18:40 Dog Day Out Report Card Statement: \"Today I encountered: other dogs. I like to play in the water. I like to go hiking. I like to play with toys. I can do tricks. I like to ride in the car. I like to go out on the town. I'm social and fun. I'm calm and laid back. Socks is a good boy who is very trainable and very food motivated. In the shelter he seemed super hyper and uneasy but as soon as he got out of that environment he was a completely different dog. He hopped right into the car without hesitation and settled in the backseat pretty quickly. He wasn't pacing or whining and seemed to really enjoy the car ride. We took him to a shaded park where we practiced a couple sits, and he picked them up quickly. He takes treats very gently and stays engaged. He pulls a little on leash, but that should improve with a little consistency. He also jumped in a pond and loved watching the ducks and birds. After that we got him a pup cup and took him to Home Depot. He walked past people without reacting and confidently climbed up and down onto a stack of plywood to get treats. That shows he's pretty curious and confident. We also stopped by Petsmart where another dog barked at him but he didn't react. He then took a nap in the car and we ended the day relaxing under some trees while he happily chewed on a pig ear and a collagen stick. Overall, Socks is a great dog. He enjoys getting out and exploring but he's not a dog that can't settle. Once the adventure is over, he's happy to relax by your side.
