Marshal

Marshal is an adoptable male Siberian Husky looking for a home at Los Angeles County - Downey in Downey, California. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Marshal, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Marshall was at the front of the kennel with a tense demeanor and began to bark defensively upon seeing the runner. Marshall scurried to the rear barking defensively/teeth bared/hunched body and would not approach. The handler gave Marshall time to settle and acclimate to their presence. Using a slow approach the handler was able to leash/remove Marshall with some difficulty as he was avoidant/defensive in kennel. Marshall was taken to the catch pen and was collared/leashed using a slow approach. Marshall greeted the dogs at the barrier with a neutral demeanor and was allowed into the play yard. Marshall displayed a neutral body, closed mouth, natural ear set, neutral tail position, and soft eyes. Marshall allowed the dogs to gather and sniff him then started to exchange greetings, appearing more at ease. He moved on and began to explore the yard sniffing/marking various locations. He continued to socialize as he explored and was given play bows. Marshall participated in light play chase for some time. He broke away from the playful group and continued to explore and socialize nicely. Marshall appeared wary of the handlers and briefly flashed teeth then moved away if they tried to approach him. Marshall maintained a relaxed and social demeanor displaying a gentle/dainty play yard. See additional assessment for placement recommendations. Marshall displayed a slightly tense body, closed mouth, ears back, low tail, and a neutral gaze. Marshall was avoidant of the handler moving away from them as they approached. The handler was able to get Marshall's leash and back tied him and proceeded using the assessment hand for safety. The handler was able to examine Marshall's ears, mouth, abdomen, back, lower extremities, and tail. Marshall remained tense occasionally growling/flash teeth when his lower extremities were palpated. Marshall appeared tense/uncomfortable throughout the assessment and was returned to his kennel without incident. Marshall is recommended to be made available to rescue only medium energy level calm dogs recommended. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.' Marshal was at the front of the kennel with a stiff body, hard stare, and a stiff tail. He bared his teeth, snarled, growled, and lunged at the runner. He tried to bite the runner's hand through the kennel door. The runner used the Pet Corrector, but Marshal ignored it. He continued to snarl, lunge, and try to bite the runner. He relaxed slightly when the runner presented the leash, but immediately tried to bite the runner's hand when she reached for the door latch. Marshal could not be safely removed from the kennel at this time. Another assessment attempt will be made on a later date.
