A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out'or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.' Samantha appeared tense/timid but with a slow approach/coaxing was able to leash/remove her from the kennel. Samantha was taken to the catch pen and was easy to collar/leash soliciting petting during the process. She greeted the dogs at the barrier with a timid demeanor and was allowed into the play yard. Samantha displayed a tense hunched body, closed mouth, ears back, tucked tail, and soft eyes. Samantha appeared overwhelmed and scurried away from the dogs. As the dogs continued to try and greet her, Samantha began to overcorrect and chase the dogs away. Samantha then used the handlers as a shield/soliciting petting from them. Samantha was shifted to the adjacent yard with a few other calm dogs. Samantha appeared much more at ease displaying a relaxed demeanor. She did not interact with the other dogs but was able to co-exist in the play yard. After some time, Samantha appeared interested in the dogs in the adjacent yard greeting them nicely at the barrier. Eventually Samantha was reintroduced in the yard. She exchanged greetings nicely, but when they gave her play bows Samantha ran away. Samantha spent the remainder of the play session amongst the handlers soliciting petting from them. Samantha could benefit from further socialization and confidence building. Samantha is ok for public adoption medium energy level no other dogs recommended at this time.
