A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out'or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. Luna A5788956 (Intact) stood with a relaxed posture, observing the runner with wide eyes upon arrival. She was easily retrieved and then proceeded to lead the way to the catch pen with a moderate pull on the leash, bypassing her neighboring kennels. Once inside the catch pen, Luna's posture became stiff as she hard stared at the dogs behind the fence. As a precaution, a muzzle along with a collar and leash, was applied without issue. Luna was then guided into the yard, where she lunged toward one of the dogs, but she was held back by her leash to prevent further escalation. Luna was allowed to settle before being allowed to roam on her own, preferring to remain near the handlers while appearing tense in the presence of the other dogs. Luna eventually lunged and challenged, pressing her muzzle against the other dog's body, but settled temporarily with corrections from the handlers. She repeated this behavior once again, forcing the session to end early as she was unable to coexist peacefully with the other dogs. Luna was then returned to her kennel without incident. Due to her impulsive behavior, Luna would benefit from a home with no other dogs.
