A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.' Luke A5795327 greeted the runner with a timid demeanor at first, but he quickly settled when the runner coxed him, his body relaxed, his eyes were soft and his tail wagged neutrally. He was easy to remove and he strongly pulled on leash. In the catch pen when he was introduced to the dogs his body was relaxed, his eyes were soft and his tail wagged neutrally. He was easy to collar and leash. He entered the yard and exchanged appropriate greetings with the dogs. He was interested in the dogs, he sniffed them and ran loosely around the yard. He engaged in play. He ran with the dogs. He attempted to mount some of the dogs. When a muzzle work dog entered the yard, he was tolerant of her, she was pushy, she challenged him and he remained calm, when she jumped and growled at him, he gave her a good correction and backed away as soon as the handlers stepped in. He continued to play with the dogs, his body remained relaxed, his eyes were soft and his mouth was open with a soft pant. Overall, Luke was social with the dogs and would benefit best in a push/pull yard. Luke A5795327 was moved to the side yard to proceed with his handling assessment. He was slightly nervous, the female handler called him, he walked over to the male handler and used him as a shield. The male handler pet him, he was more comfortable with him. The female handler used his leash to move him closer to her. He settled quickly but was uninterested in her. He allowed her to pet him everywhere, his body remained neutral. He was more interested in the dogs inside the yard. He displayed no aggression during his handling or concerning behavior. Overall, Luke was tolerant of being pet, he will require confidence building and slow introductions. Behaviorally ok for public adoption, large dogs ok, adults only recommended.
