Dottie
American Staffordshire Terrier (mix breed)
Urgent: 7 Days Left
Scheduled: August 30, 2026
Reason: Medical
Dottie is an adoptable female American Staffordshire Terrier looking for a home at Dallas Animal Services in Dallas, Texas. She is a young adult and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 7 days left, listed due to medical. Adopting Dottie, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.
Dottie is a female dog in need of a rescue, foster, or adopter who can provide continued medical care and support. She has periocular erythema in both eyes and an abnormal hindlimb gait characterized by a bowlegged appearance. Radiographs on 8/20/26 revealed severe genu varus, primarily affecting the distal femurs, with associated sclerosis involving both patellas and the intertrochlear grooves. Given her age, the tibial crests also appear undermineralized, with possible evidence of prior bilateral avulsion injuries. Dottie requires further diagnostic evaluation and veterinary care that we are unable to provide at DAS. Dottie would benefit from a stable, supportive environment where she can receive the additional diagnostics and ongoing veterinary care needed to further evaluate her orthopedic abnormalities, abnormal gait, and periocular erythema and develop an appropriate treatment plan. Please share Dottie's information to help us find a rescue, foster, or adopter who can provide the specialized care she needs. If you are interested in helping Dottie, please email dasadopt@dallas.gov with your contact information so we can call you back.
