Memo 8/26/2026 08/26/26 11:52 Canine has shown increasing over-arousal and is becoming difficult to manage safely while in care. Placement with a New Hope Partner is required by close of business 8/31/26 to allow for behavioral support and assessment in a different setting. May be at risk for euthanasia 9/1/26 or sooner if warranted. Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 8/23/2026 Closed to front half of kennel during AM cleaning. Would demand bark while jumping high in kennel, offered treats & waited for dog to settle then presented leash. Would push out of kennel gate once leashed, jumped up & wrapped front paws around handlers stomach then would push off of handlers body, walked a couple kennels away then would turn to jump up again, able to continue to walk. Once out of building, dog would walk with a hard pull on leash to main PY. Started to pace along fence line while keeping tail flagged & panting heavy. Found a soft toy, started to rip apart & shake in air. Dog would notice another dog being walked on walk way, dog would run to fence line, attempting to jump up but would roll off of fence line rollers. Handler would clap hands & call dog over. Dog would run past handler & start to pace along fence line while again keeping tail flagged & panting heavy. Unable to settle dog with treats or calling over. Walked dog to airlock gate then picked up leash, attached a clip leash without issues. Offered more treats, would still not be interested in treats. Walked with a strong pull on leash to kennel building. Once inside building dog would turn & wrap front paws around handler again, able to direct down & continue to walk. Would not enter into kennel on own, would start to pull back on leash. Handler would toss a jackpot amount of treats, dog would enter into kennel. Removed leash with use of clip leash. 8/22/2026 Dog was laying in outer portion; verbally coaxed; tossed treats; not interested; presented leash; dog rushed in; tail wagging; offered treats; not interested; allowed for easy leash; tried pushing out; exited; immediately turned around jumped on handler; pulled in different directions; eventually pulled hard towards building door; jumping on building door; exited; hard pull; picked up a toy; carried briefly; dropped toy; entered yard. In yard, dog explored; tail wagging; panting; sniffing nose to ground; verbally coaxed; not interested; tossed treats; dog went after treats; more interested in yard. Dog started to walk along perimeter of fence; nudging snout through small openings of gate; pawed at gate; tried to redirect attention; went back to exploring. Dog picked up a tennis ball; play independently; handler grabbed another tennis ball; threw ball; dog chased; carried ball in mouth; walked around in yard; tried to get dog to trade for a treat; not interested; played with ball for rest of time. Picked leash up; dog walked to yard gate with ball in mouth; added clip leash; exited yard; dropped ball; hard pull; noticed another toy; picked toy up; carried toy; moderate pull back to kennel; entered kennel; continued to play with toy; removed leash with clip leash. 8/21/2026 Dog approached handler with soft body and wagging tail, took treats. Tried forcefully pushing out of kennel while placing leash, strong pull out of kennel, jumped up and pushed off handler, erratic, pulled in different directions, once out of building dog settled but walked with very strong pull. High energy in yard, tore apart a couple stuffed toys, explored yard, tense body, high wagging tail, panting, approached when handler squeaked toy, softened with wagging tail, took treats gently, allowed pets, continued exploring yard and playing with toys. Followed handler to gate, leapt back as handler picked up leash, strong pull back to kennel, easy return, whipped head towards hand with open mouth while removing leash, didn't make contact. 8/16/2026 Solicited attentions, Playful, High arousal, Moderate to pull from kennel, Easy to return to kennel, Played with toys, Takes treats nicely, Strong Pull on Leash, Stop and go, High Energy, Fence fight attempt, Pulled to exit, Sit, Hard pull to yard, high energy in yard. Playful, affiliative, allowed all pets. Reactive to a neighbor dog. Very hard pull initially on walk. Settled into moderate to loose but pulled hard towards interesting things. On return he went right in unleash by hand. 8/6/2026 Playful, Easy to pull from kennel, Easy to return to kennel, Played with toys, Takes treats nicely, Strong Pull on Leash, Sit, Appears potty trained, food motivated, loves lots of tennis balls, entertains himself with balls and the play pool, friendly, good boy. 7/27/2026 Playful, Moderate to pull from kennel, Easy to return to kennel, Played with toys, Takes treats nicely, Strong Pull on Leash, Appeared interested when walking past kennels, Sit, Loves playing with tennis balls, tried to push out when leashing, appears potty trained, food motivated, playful, sweet boy. 7/18/2026 Solicited attentions, Playful, Easy to pull from kennel, Easy to return to kennel, Fetch toys, Takes treats nicely, Strong Pull on Leash, Calm, Ignored dogs when walking past kennels, Sit, Loves to chase the tennis ball. Will lean in for pets and treats. Very sweet demeanor. Wasn't interested in other dogs we passed in kennels. 7/9/2026 Solicited attentions, Playful, Easy to pull from kennel, Easy to return to kennel, Played with toys, Fetch toys, Takes treats nicely, Strong Pull on Leash, Ignored dogs when walking past kennels, Sit, Anxious, strong pull out of kennel & out to yard, not reactive; playful, active - chased after balls, allow to take from mouth, played tag w/ handler & settles immediately; got in pool, lay down, allowed handler to play w/ paws; med strong pull on return, easy unleash 6/28/2026 Solicited attentions, Playful, Easy to pull from kennel, Easy to return to kennel, Played with toys, Takes treats nicely, Strong Pull on Leash, Ignored dogs when walking past kennels, Appears potty trained, food motivated, loves attention and the play pool, friendly boy. 6/28/2026 Strong pull out of kennel and returning to kennel. 6/28/2026 Updating color level to PURPLE based on recent out of kennel behaviors. *Dog should not be introduced to any other pets until end of 14-day decompression period. Potential adopters should be counseled on proper dog introductions, which must be slow and supervised. Pulls on leash but manageable, pulled more so when excited to come out of kennel. Ignored barking dogs passing kennels. Affectionate with handler. 5/27/2026 Neutral soft body with wagging tail as handler knelt down in front of kennel, came forward to sniff.
