He was attached to the fence by the loop leash for safety, pnor to starting the assessment. A bowl of wet food mixed with kibble was placed on the ground and pushed close to him using the assess-a-hand He began to eat and the handler waited a few seconds for him to start enjoying the food. The handler then slowly moved the assess-a-hand closer to the bowl. He stopped eating, froze and stared toward the hand, when it was still about 8 feet away. As the hand got closer, he continued to watch it, while still eating. When the hand touched the bowl, he growled, showedteeth, and then snapped at the hand. He would still growl while the handler was standing over 8 feet away from him and makingno movement toward the food. Due to already displaying resource guarding behavior, the assessment was stopped and he was allowed to finish the food. Once the bowl was empty, he took a couple of steps away from it. When the handler used the assess-a-hand to remove the bowl, he chased after the hand andrepeatedly attempted to bite it. Due to resource guarding displayed during the assessment and his resource guarding behavior in the previous home, he wil be designated as rescue only and will require a known history of aggression disclosure for. He was relaxed with soft eyes and seeking affection from the handler as he easily clasped the collar around his neck. He was immediately social with the other dogs as he entered the yard. He approached a group of dogs, exchanging good greetings with all. Ayoung, female shepherd enticed him for play. He tapped his feet appearing to be interested but full play did not erupt. He then playfully approached the handlers and solicited affection. He spent some time explong the yard with a small group, remaining social. He was enticed for play by a male lab as they explored but he was not interested. He declined the female shepherd once again as well. After spending a long time exploring, he walked over to a handler and began soliciting affection and then sat down behind him in the shade. He remained in the shade behind the handler for the rest of his time in the yard. He remained social and exchanged good greetings with all dogs who came up to him. Heneeds continued socialization.
