Bear

Bear is an adoptable male Rottweiler looking for a home at BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas. He is senior and x-large in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Bear, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Located At: BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions Description: My name is Bear. I am a neutered male, black and brindle Rottweiler mix. Age: The shelter staff think I am about 10 years old. More Info: I have been at the shelter since Aug 26, 2026. I am in kennel DD28. Weight: 141 lbs | Overweight Intake date: 8/26/2026 Status: Rescue only (medical) ⸻ 🩺 MEDICAL NOTES: Both eyes are cloudy due to age-related nuclear sclerosis, but importantly, Bear remains visual. He is also stiff and has difficulty getting back up after sitting, consistent with his geriatric age. No further treatment was recommended at this time. Bear is heartworm negative and received DA2PP, Bordetella, rabies vaccination, deworming and preventatives. ⸻ 🐾BEHAVIOR NOTES: Bear may be a giant senior, but his behavior notes couldn't be sweeter. He greets staff at his kennel with a relaxed body, wagging little tail nub and a soft, open 'smiling' mouth. Bear walked nicely on a loose leash and entered and exited his kennel without any problems.
