Olive is a very sweet dog. Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 8/25/2026 Closed out for AM cleaning. Standing at front of kennel; stoic; offered treat; took treat gently; started panting; ears back; allowed handler to place large loop over; slightly backed up; leashed; exited; walked well; panting; ears back; furrowed brow. Entering yard, leash briefly brushed dog's back; skin crawled; flinched; lightly pulled forward; dog started pacing; defecated; continued to pace; panting; salivating; ears back; would verbally coax; would not approach; when dog would walk past handler reached out to pet; no reaction; continued to pace; offered treats; not interested; started pacing in front of handler; picked leash up; dog slowly approached; allowed handler to slowly remove existing collar; panting; dropped leash; continued to pace; yawned. Handler stood up; walked around in yard; dog would move away when towards direction; tail tucked; sat against fence; slowly approached; allowed for slow petting; picked leash; walked well back to kennel; entered kennel; moved towards middle of kennel; allowed handler to slowly remove leash. 8/24/2026 Closed inside for AM cleaning laying in corner of kennel with eyes wide, tense bodied, lip licking, froze in place. Not interested in treats but did start to hesitantly come forward when name was used to call over, did not fully approach handler, whale eye, head lowered, tail tightly tucked. Froze in place as door was opened, able to place large loop leash over head with no issues. Exited with easy leash pull, startled by reactive dogs and elements in passing, whale eye/side eye when looking at handler, tail tightly tucked, able to walk to play yard with no issues. In yard dog head flipped, flinched heavily when placing leash stopper, side eyeing handler, tail tightly tucked throughout time in yard, would have moments of following handler but retreats slowly when faced, will approach handler as handler sat on bench but wary to fully approach, eyes wide and body tense, lip licking, eyes shifting in all directions, flinches heavily and cowers low when startled by fast movements. Would tolerate pets when near handler but brief and will begin to pace away. Not interested in treats offered, began heavy panting and pacing around yard more as evaluation progressed. Would start to come to handler when called over but not fully approach, picked up leash and dog would whale eye, freeze in place, side eyeing when removing leash stopper. No issues returning to kennel, dashed into kennel quickly, tense bodied, eyes wide and whale eye, flinched when slowly removing leash by hand, no issues recovering leash. 8/22/2026 Easy leashing, walking into Triage. Wid eyed, hard stare, tail tucked, tense body. Muzzlewrapped for vaccines.
