Meet Sasha A, a Husky who is looking for a patient rescue partner willing to give her the time and space she needs to feel safe. Sasha A was found as a stray on August 22nd and can be timid and unsure in new situations, benefiting from a slow, low-pressure approach. Sasha A is particularly sensitive to handling around her head, neck, and back. She has flinched, moved away, and snapped in different instances when she felt uncomfortable. Her left eye also appears cloudy, so it is possible that a vision impairment may be contributing to her sensitivity to unexpected touch near that side of her body. Sasha A has shown some encouraging signs with patient handling. She is easy to leash, takes treats gently from people, and has approached staff to sniff them. Most recently, staff were able to give her short, gentle pets, and she stood calmly beside the handler, though she did not solicit additional interaction. She has also been quite stressed, pacing and panting and showing little interest in treats or food-based enrichment. When meeting another dog, she was tolerant of being sniffed and then moved away. Sasha A will need a rescue partner experienced with fearful or handling-sensitive dogs who can prioritize predictability, consent-based interactions, and building trust at her pace. With the right support and a patient approach, Sasha A deserves the opportunity to decompress and show more of who she is outside the stress of the shelter environment. Easy to leash and came right out of kennel. Mildly pulls on the leash. In the yard she was pacing around, heavy panting and owner searching. She did go up to the other staff member in the yard and sniff them. Sasha was not eating any treats outside. I was able to do short gentle pets. She stood next to me, however did not solicit for more pets. If I wasn't holding the leash she was pacing around the yard. Brought her into the eval room to attempt to clip her leash before returning to kennel. I made up a Licki tray, she licked it once and then stopped. I was able to very slowly clip the leash. She went right into kennel. Per staff 8/26: Kennel Presentation: At the front of the kennel with wide eyes, panting, ears forward and tail down not moving. Leash Skills: Treat lure to leash. Eyes darting walking through the kennel. Nose to the ground once outside. Zig zagging while panting. Sociability: Asocial. Attempted a few consent pets and she flinched, moving away. Did not solicit for more or eat any treats outside. Play: N/A Dog Interaction: Met Smooches. Tolerant of being sniffed and moved away. Return to Kennel: Due to the note from her check-in about not liking being touched around neck/back of head, staff was cautious. Staff was able to slip up the stopper; however, when staff went to clip the leash, she head whipped and snapped at staff's hand. She went right into the kennel, treats on the ground, and used the Shepherd's hook to remove the leash. Color Level: Behavior/management at this time Per staff 8/24: Friendly to a point, very food motivated, does not like when you touch the back of her head or her back. Bared teeth at handler when he was touching her. Snapped at nurse when she got stuck with syringe. Snapped at handler when he was clipping leash behind her head, possibly due to vision impairment in left eye. Per staff 8/22: Timid and needs a slow approach. Shied away from staff at first but approached when staff hunkered down. Tensed up when staff reached out but sniffed staff softly then allowed staff to leash her and lift into van. Gave some low wags upon arrival to ACCT, entered kennel willingly.
