Roxie is an adoptable female Terrier looking for a home at NYC ACC-Manhattan in New York, New York. She is a young adult and medium in size. Roxie is noted to display fearful behavior at the care center due to sensitivity to loud noises and is noted to flee from loud noises. Staff reports kennel stress-related behaviors such as fixating on transfer doors, heavy panting, and licking kennel bars. Roxie is noted to enjoy pets from familiar handlers. Medically, she has Otitis Externa and Pyoderma. Roxie arrived at MACC as an owner surrender. While in care, Roxie has been observed to be highly fearful. Noted to be tense and trembling with a tucked tail. Recently while in the elevator with another handler, Roxie suddenly began hard barking and lunging at them without warning. Roxie has also been observed to be kennel reactive. Noted to pull hard towards the neighboring dogs in the kennel room before jumping up on handlers. Due to the detailed behavior, we recommend an experienced adult only home. Meet Roxie! Roxie is a sweet, active girl who is looking for a fresh start after being surrendered when her owner could no longer care for her. She enjoys exploring her surroundings, loves being close to people she trusts, and has a playful spirit that's just waiting to shine in the right home. With patience and encouragement, Roxie has all the makings of a wonderful companion. My Ideal Home Roxie would love an active home that can provide plenty of exercise, enrichment, and positive, reward-based training. Food puzzles, long-lasting chews, games, and daily adventures will help keep both her body and mind engaged. She'll do best with someone who understands that building confidence takes time and is happy to let her settle in at her own pace. Good with Other Pets? Roxie previously lived with other dogs and has been described as friendly and outgoing. At the shelter she's shown that she may feel more comfortable taking introductions slowly and often prefers staying close to familiar people. ACC also recommends a home without cats. Good with Kids? Due to her fearful behavior, ACC recommends a home without children under 13 years old. Things to Know Roxie is an energetic dog who enjoys staying busy. Her previous owner shared that she can pull on leash and may become anxious when left alone, so continued positive reinforcement training will help her build confidence and good habits. Once she forms a bond, Roxie clearly enjoys being close to her favorite people and will thrive with a patient adopter who can provide consistency, reassurance, and lots of love.
