Memo 9/4/2026 09/04/26 12:45 Canine has demonstrated low tolerance for handling and other concerning behaviors during their time in care. Placement with a New Hope Partner is needed by close of business 9/10/26 to facilitate further behavioral evaluation and support. May be at risk for euthanasia 9/11/26 or sooner if warranted. Intake 8/28/2026 How long have you had the animal? 2 DAYS What are the cross streets where you found the animal? SOSSAMAN RD AND SOUTHERN AVE Is this animal currently showing any signs of illness, taking any medication, or has the animal been diagnosed with a medical or behavioral condition? NO Is animal spayed/neutered? UNSURE Has the animal bitten anyone? If yes, please explain? NO Any near bites (contact but did not break skin)? If yes, please explain? Has the animal shown any signs of aggression toward people or animals? SOURCE STATES PET WAS UNDERNEATH BED AND 2 YEAR OLD CHILD LOOKED UNDER BED RIGHT AT PET AND PET GROWLED. NO OTHER AGGRESSION NOTED. Has the animal ever seriously injured or caused the death of another animal? NO Was this animal around any children? 2 YEAR OLD THROUGH 17 YEAR OLD WAS FRIENDLY WITH ALL CHILDREN ACCEPT FOR INCIDENT WITH TWO YEAR OLD. Did the animal interact with other animals? YES Cats? WAS IN AND OUT OF PROPERTY Any Door Dashes/Runs away, if so, describe? Any Additional details/notes on behavior? VERY CALM, LIKES ATTENTION. Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 9/3/2026 Dog was laying in back of kennel, handler closed divider, dog flinched, handler approached back of kennel, dog was laying with back against the door, looking forward, tense and low growling, handler spoke softly, trying to get dogs attention with out startling her, dog would slowly turn and see handler, stiff, growling, staring, handler tossed treat, dog sniffed it but did not eat, low, hunkered posture, handler opened door slowly and held in leash, dog frozen in place, staring at handler, continuous growling until kennel exit, handler got loop over head and was trying to adjust it but leash was stuck, as handler tried to adjust it dog barked forcefully at them, remained tense and frozen in place, hard stare with dilated pupils, handler removed leash, second attempt was successful, dog slowly exited kennel, wide eyes, low tucked tail, would walk with little to no pulling, pausing occasionally and looking at handler with wide eyes, would follow out of building, once outside dog froze, air scenting, lifted front paw, took a moment then continued to walk into yard, paused at entrance, handler did not adjust stopper as dog was side eyeing them each time they moved closer, handler held leash to keep it from falling off, dog would slowly move through yard, still tail, ears back, furrowed brow, whale eye at handler, would somewhat come close to handler when they called dog over, stood facing away from handler, flinched and skin crawled when handler touched side with leash, turning head with wide eyes, handler did not attempt to pet, let dog sniff around yard for a few minutes, dog would follow handler back to catch pen, stood at gate, allowed some petting with leash handle but would turn head and side eye when handler reached with clip leash, handler opted not to add leash, walked dog back to kennel, mild pull, entered kennel easily, would take treats left behind, handler tossed a few treats until leash fell off, lured dog to other side of kennel and retrieved leash. 9/1/2026 Handler approached kennel front; Dog was in back; Handler closed guillotine and re approached back; Dog was sitting with back against guillotine; whale eyed; shaking; low growling; Handler unlocked door and stepped in to leash; Dog alarm barked and low growled; tense; Handler retreated back a little; handler was able to place leash over head with clip leash already attached prior to leashing; Dog walked out with caution; more avoidant of handler; butt scooted ahead keeping a little distance; but walked forward with caution; Handler kept walking to yard; mild pull for size; walked to yard; handler had to reach to open catch pen; Dog was wary of surroundings; started to thrash briefly next to yard upon entering; defecated in place; Handler was able to reach for door and dog was more willing to approach yard when gate was opened; handler secured leash; Allowed dog to roam; Dog stayed away from handler didn't want to solicit pets to handler stayed in corner away from handler; handler would try to coax over with no luck; If handler approached dog would nervous whine and retreat away; handler opened catch pen and dog re entered; handler grabbed leash slowly and did soft pets; Dog allowed petting in catch pin but in yard didn't want to be near handler; allowed petting on belly and sides and head in catch pin at slow approach; still wary and timid; Once time to go handler grabbed leash and dog walked out; followed handler to kennel; re entered with ease; unleashed by clip leash; dog retreats to other side; 8/31/2026 Handler approached front kennel, dog was in back kennel laying down. Handler lowered guillotine and reapproached. Handler offered treat, dog ate treat closest to self. Handler prepared leash and opened gate, dog had been laying by gate and was now shifting towards other side. Handler was able to drape leash over without issue. Handler secured leash and tried to prompt dog to walk out of kennel. Handler offered more treats, dog was not interested. Handler placed safety gloves and draped towel over dog. Handler picked up dog and carried to M&G room. Once in room handler held onto leash, handler was not able to adjust leash stopper. Dog paced in far corner for a few minutes. handler tried to offer treats and verbally coax, dog approached once and then quickly walked back to corner. Dog was staring out of window to outside, handler asked, \"want to go outside?\". Dog briefly perked. Handler was able to guide dog using spatial pressure to a nearby PY. Dog began walking on leash with some verbal coaxing. Once in PY handler adjusted leash stopper and attached leash extension. Handler released dog and dog walked out to furthest corner. Handler allowed dog some time to decompress and then reapproached to walk back. Dog allowed leash retrieval and walked back to kennel. Handler stopped a few times on the path to try to place clip leash, dog would whale eye at handler a rotate body quickly. Handler was able to walk dog back to kennel and apply clip leash on path. Handler stepped into kennel dog followed and handler used clip leash to remove leash. 8/28/2026 Carried crate into triage, opened door and dog would not come out. Growled at handler. Left door open and eventually dog came out. Very flighty in room, avoiding handler and jumping at the door. Air snapping. Used a large blanket to pick dog up, dog struggled and tried to bite. Tried a second time and successfully gave vaccines. Does not walk on leash, thrashing, pulling back. Used blanket to carry to kennel and used a clip leash to remove lead.
