Joey is an adoptable male Chihuahua looking for a home at Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control in West Palm Beach, Florida. He is senior and small in size. Intake Info: This old boy, who we named Joey, was reported to be repeatedly running loose in the neighborhood, with the complainant mentioning he had bitten him before. Joey was very fearful and reactive when being brought to the shelter and the officer noticed he was limping and had hairloss on the back. He arrived on 8/28. Medical: Estimated 10-year-old, unaltered male. Exam reveals diffuse alopecia from suspected flea allergy dermatitis, live fleas, numerous superficial abrasions, chronic pigmented ear canals with moderate brown waxy debris, periodontal disease grade 2-3/4 (mandible incisors mobile, fractured/severe attrition), eyes clean, no instability, swelling, fractures or other noted in extremities, intact male bilateral descended testicles, no microchip detected, no murmur, lungs clear. FAS 3/3 at time of impound. HS-5 for clinical heartworm disease with comorbidities. He is frozen, unsocial, lip licking, whale eyed. Handleable but wary. Request to Rescues: Joey needs urgent rescue due to his medical issues, combined with his fear and anxiety. He needs a safe and quiet space to decompress and a follow up appointment with a private vet to develop his heartworm treatment plan. His needs exceed our capacity for care.
