A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.\" She was head shy and needed a go slow approach when being collared by the runner in the catch pen. She entered the play yard with soft body language. She was approached by three dogs and tolerated them all sniffing her. After the dogs broke away, she began to calmly roam the yard and explore. She was tolerant of dogs trailing her to sniff her. She continued to roam the yard and began to approach other dogs, exchanging soft greetings. She remained calm and social for the rest of her time in the yard, but she appeared to gravitate more towards the calmer dogs. There were dogs playing during her time in the yard, but she did not engage in or entice any play. She approached one of the handlers once during her time in the yard, but she needs a go-slow approach and trust building Canela is social with the other dogs, but she displayed no play style at this time. See handling assessment for further stipulations. The handler knelt and called to her, but she did not approach. The handler approached her and picked up her leash She allowed the handler to pet her head, but she was head shy at first and then allowed further petting. When the handler checked her teeth, she pulled her head away. She allowed the handler to check her ears with no reaction. She allowed the handler to touch and ift all her paws with no reaction. She allowed the handler to touch her tail with no reaction. She displayed no negative behavior toward the handler, but she is very timid and needs a go-slow approach. She was retumed to her kennel without issue. Due to her need for a slower approach and trust building, she would do best in an adult only home.
