A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.\" He was wary and required a very go-slow approach when being collared by the runner in the catch pen. He entered the play yard with soft body language. He was approached by two dogs and tolerated them both sniffing him, but he was timid. After the dogs broke away, he began to roam the yard and explore. He was tolerant of dogs trailing him to sniff him. After a while, he began to approach some of the calm dogs and exchange soft greetings. He remained wary of higher energy dogs and would back away from them. He was approached by a female Rottweiler that offered him play bows and he gave her a lip curl waming for space. She respected his waming and walked away. He was wary of the handlers in the yard, whine growling or huffing when they walked nearer to him. He would do best with a calm dog that will respect his space and boundaries. See handling assessment for further stipulations. The handler knelt and called to him, but he did not approach. The handler slowly approached him and picked up his leash. When the handler would pet his head, he was very head shy, had whale eyes and licking his lips. He would also look up, tracking the runner's hand. He also displayed this same behavior when the handler touched his ears. He was uncomfortable with the handler touching his muzzle to try to check his teeth. When the handler tried to check his paws, he would quickly pull them away and began to growl. He was retumed to his kennel without issue. Due to his handling sensitivity and behaviors displayed, he will be designated as rescue only at this time.
