A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on suroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.\" He was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. He entered the play yard with soft body language. He approached a female shepherd and exchanged a soft greeting with her. He then approached a male shepherd and exchanged a soft greeting with him. He began to roam the yard and explore. He was tolerant of dogs trailing him to sniff him. He continued to calmly roam the yard and exchange soft greetings with the other dogs. He remained calm and social for the rest of his time in the yard. There were dogs playing during his time in the yard, but he did not engage in or entice any play. He would approach the handlers and seek affection. Freddie is social with the other dogs, but he displayed no play style at this time and would likely do best with a calmer dog in his advanced age. See handling assessment for further stipulations. He approached with soft body language and began seeking affection. He allowed the handler to pet his head with no reaction. He allowed the handler to check his teeth with no reaction. He allowed the handler to check his ears with no reaction. He allowed the handler to touch and lift his back paws with no reaction. He allowed the handler to touch his tail with no reaction. When the handler touched and lifted his front paw, he became a little tense and licking his lips. He displayed no concering behavior toward the handler, but he can be wary of faster movements. He was retumed to his kennel without issue. Due to doing best with a slower approach, he would likely do best in an adult only home or with older respectful kids.
