About Prince

Prince is an adoptable male German Shepherd looking for a home at LA Animal Services - West Valley in Chatsworth, California. He is fully grown and large in size. He is listed on the shelter's euthanasia list, listed due to behavior, and that date has now passed. Shelters often move these dates, so Prince may still be waiting. The shelter can confirm.

NEUTERED MALE, TAN AND BLACK MIXED BREED. Animal ID: A1955872 Shelter: WEST VALLEY At shelter since: 07/06/2026 On this list since: 09/08/2026 Rescue only: No At Risk Category: Y3 Last day to take animal: 9/12/26 Euthanasia Reason: Prince has demonstrated a persistent pattern of severe shelter-related anxiety, defensive behavior, and difficulty coping despite extensive behavioral intervention, walks, enrichment, and repeated DPFL evaluations. Upon intake, he exhibited stiff body posture, growling, urination, snapping toward a handler, avoidance, and attempts to escape handling, requiring an ACD for safe removal. Throughout his stay, Prince repeatedly displayed raised hackles, low growling, avoidance, frantic behavior, gate-directed escape attempts, and difficulty being redirected or safely steered. These behaviors have remained inconsistent and unpredictable, particularly when he becomes overwhelmed or highly aroused. Although Prince can be affectionate and appropriate during controlled one-on-one interactions, these positive behaviors have not translated into consistent behavioral stability within the shelter environment. His ongoing anxiety, hard-to-steer behavior, reactivity during stressful situations, and repeated attempts to escape demonstrate that he is not coping safely or appropriately in the shelter. Given the duration of these concerns, the extensive interventions attempted, and the continued risk associated with his unpredictable behavior when overwhelmed, euthanasia is justified as a humane outcome due to his inability to safely and consistently cope within the shelter environment. At Risk Category:Y3 Last day to take animal: 9/12/26 Scheduled euthanasia date: 9/13/26 If animal is available for New Hope, adoption, foster: NEW HOPE, FOSTER OR ADOPTION WEST VALLEY A1955872
