This assessment should be considered a snapshot in time that will require updating as new information or behaviors emerge. It should not be relied upon to predict future behavior or as a statement of overall temperament. For additional information about an animal's behavior, please contact the animal care center. EVALUATION DATE: 2026-09-24 UPDATED THE LEGEND: ADULTS ONLY (REQ) i DOG SOCIAL SKILLS: NO OTHER DOGS (REC) i ENERGY LEVEL: LOW i TRAINING RECOMMENDATION: CONTINUED SOCIALIZATION i EVALUATION COMMENTS: 'The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.' Ginger was already in the yard when the handler decided to begin the handling assessment. She was moved to the side yard and given a few moments to decompress before the handler entered the yard. She pressed her body into the ground, and watched the handler with concerned eyes. She allowed the handler to pet her whole body, but displayed no pro social behavior toward the handler. She remained tense and uncomfortable throughout the assessment. She did not display any aggressive behavior toward the handler, but appears to be shut down in a kennel environment. Ginger would benefit greatly from continued socialization and confidence building.
