Cookie Dough is a senior Shepherd who came to ACCT Philly as a stray on August 17th, brought in by police alongside a puppy. She is a sweet, sensitive girl who needs a little time to trust new people, but once she feels comfortable, she really blossoms. She initially arrived very nervous and watchful, moving slowly and carefully and unsure about being handled. With patience and consistency, she has made wonderful progress and now leans into pets, seeks out attention, and becomes incredibly cuddly with people she trusts. She has also been described as calm, easygoing, playful, and very good on leash, with low to medium energy and a love of tennis balls. She can be unsure and avoidant around other dogs, so she will need a home that can respect her need for space as she continues building confidence. Cookie Dough has come a long way in a short time, and there is a very affectionate girl underneath her initial shyness. With someone willing to give her the time and consistency she needs to feel safe, she has so much love to give. Due to her length of stay, Cookie Dough is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter. Head shy, go slow, didn't want to go back in kennel. Lip licking and whale eyes when hand goes near head. Per staff 9/9: Kennel Presentation: At the front of the kennel with soft eyes, ears to the side and mid tail. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and came right out of kennel. Walked on a loose leash. Sociability: Leaned into all handling with soft eyes, ears to the side, and relaxed opened mouth. Solicited attention when I stopped. Was not interested in any treats. Dog Interaction: Met Brown-lee Stiff and snarled when face to face through the fence. Able to parallel walk, be sniffed and sniffed him. Avoidant. Return to Kennel: Went right back into kennel and removed leash with hand. Color Level: Gold Recommendations and considerations: Making available for adoption due to behavioral improvement.'Best suited for a home with kids 10+ whole family must meet. A home that has knowledge of acclimating a fearful dog into the home. Per staff 9/8: Observed Cookie Dough outside with staff. She appeared very housetrained and peed for a while after getting in the yard. She gently jumped up on staff and allowed pets, then wandered around before jumping back up for pets. Per staff 9/6: During our ISO playgroup, we had Laylay, Oreo Blizzard, and Mickey out in the yard. Staff brought out Cookie Dough, and Oreo Blizzard went up to the gate to meet her. As soon as Oreo Blizzard approached her at the gate, Cookie Dough immediately went to lunge and bite at the gate. We decided to just take her back. Per volunteer 8/21: When I approached her kennel, she came to the front with a neutral and calm body. She had been laying on her bed when I approached. Tried to dodge the leash a few times, then I easily got it around her head. She walks very nicely on leash with very minimal pulling. When walking into the play yard, we passed another dog through the fence and Cookie Dough avoided interaction. In the yard, she didn't actively solicit our attention for a while, but would come up to me and sniff. She didn't take any treats that I dropped. I kneeled down on the ground and she came right up to me and leaned into me, taking pets all over. From then on she was so cuddly! She leaned her butt into me when she got butt scratches. She seems to be pretty itchy and itches her own skin a lot. Met a few new volunteers in the volunteer office and solicited out pets from them. Definitely approaches hesitantly, then really enjoys the human interaction. I had her come up on the couch with me and we just cuddled for a bit. She pancakes going back into her kennel, and even with leash pressure she wouldn't go in. I had to step in and provide pressure from the inside, and she came in to solicit pets from me. Per staff 8/21, playgroup: Steer test: 3/5 with water, did not test can due to being fearful. Fearful at the fence with a tucked tail, ears back, and wide eyes. Moving away from the other dogs in the yard. Lip raised at Sadie Lady for space when she was up against a fence. Per volunteer 8/20: Low energy. Avoidant hands/touch, anxious panting, some name recall, very pleasant, enjoyed sniffs. Per staff, playgroup 8/19: Steer test: 5/5 with water, no can due to fearfulness. Tolerant, moving away, lip curled at Noni when she was greeting face to face. Doing some exit searching in the yard. Per staff 8/19: Adding good dog meet attribute; however, during Cookie Dough's dog meet she has been avoidant and moving away while she has also been tolerant. Per staff 8/18: Kennel Presentation: On the backside of her kennel, came to the front slowly with wide eyes, ears back, head lowered. Took the treat I offered gently. Leash Skills: Backed up with the leash, wide eyes, ears back, tail low. Dodged the leash, would not eat a treat through the leash. Was able to leash with a treat scatter on the kennel floor. Once leashed, walked with a low tail, ears back, wide eyes, head low. Sociability: Not eating outside, pacing with wide eyes, panting, mid to high tail. Came over when called at first with the same body language. Moving away when attempting to handle with a low tail, wide side eyes, ears back. Would not come over when called later on. Dog Interaction: Met Divine and Samantha, avoidant, tail low, ears back, moving away. Return to Kennel: Walked back with the same body language as walking out. Able to clip my leash. Stopped outside her kennel, would not go in for treats, went in with light leash pressure. Color Level: Blue Per staff 8/16: Nervous and with tail tucked. Did not want to go anywhere the puppy wasn't in sight. Ducked leash a few times and needed to be suitcased into truck. Did allow pets but backed up when he did not want to be touched.
