Intake 9/3/2026 What is the reason for surrender? OWNER STATES THAT SHE IS NEEDING TO SURRENDER THIS DOG DUE TO THEIR OWN LIFESTYLE. THEY DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO CARE OR FEED THIS DOG. OWNER FEELS THAT HE HAS A LITTLE ANXIETY SINCE HE IS ALWAYS ALONE. OWNER STATES THAT SHE BELIEVES THAT HE WOULD DO WELL IN A HOME WITH CHILDREN AND OTHER ANIMALS, AS LONG AS HE IS TRAINED WELL. Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 9/6/2026 At front of kennel pacing in front of kennel door with tucked wagging tail, heavy panting, some soft body, attempted to dash out of divider when closing divider but came forward for baby talk. Easy leash placement at front of kennel, exited with easy leash pull and sniffed dogs in passing with soft neutral body, dog would begin to lightly thrash back towards kennel when approaching middle of wing door, would settle and continue walking when handler knelt down, no issues walking rest of way to play yard. Once in yard dog would immediately begin going potty, would approach handler when called over but head shy towards pets, will back away or dodge handlers hand from petting top of head, tucked wagging tail and some soft body but tensed up when attempting to pet. Would pace/explore around yard quickly, not interested in dogs outside of yard but curious when staff is passing near, will come to handler when called over but continued to be wary with pets on head, no reaction towards petting on body. No interest in treats or toys offered. Dog would flinch head away when attempting to pet head throughout evaluation but would approach and come to handler throughout. Came to handler when called over to leave, started to lightly thrash/pull away from play yard when walking back towards kennel, able to be coaxed thru but once approaching kennel dog would begin to pull away/thrash more, settles with coaxing and able to guide dog to kennel with no issues. Walked into kennel on own and allowed for leash to removed by hand. 9/5/2026 Closed out for AM cleaning. Dog was standing at front of kennel; panting; low tail wags; not interested in treats; allowed for easy leashing; slowly exited; stop & go; startled by reactive dogs; froze; continued walking with verbal coaxing & light leash pressure; rubbed face on ground; continued walking. In yard, dog explored; sniffing nose to ground; urinated; defecated; occasionally checked in with handler; would allow for brief petting; low tail wags; panting; handler walked around; dog would approach; offered treats; not interested; would allow handler to approach; allowed for brief petting; walked away; interested in surroundings; sniffed along yard fence. Picked leash up; walked back to kennel; stop & go; entered building (all dogs closed outside); some stop & go in building; verbal coaxing; continued walking; handler entered kennel; dog followed; allowed for leash removal. 9/4/2026 Closed outside for AM cleaning. Dog was sitting at kennel door, calm, stoic, salivating, took treats gently. Allowed leash placement, pancaked in front of another dogs kennel, sniffed, softened with wagging tail, stop and go to yard, startled by reactive dogs, kept distance, would pull back and thrash at times, gave dog a moment to settle, able to approach and pet, dog continued walking with verbal coaxing and gentle leash pressue. Once in yard dog approached handler with soft body and low tail wags, allowed petting all over, lost interest in treats, explored yard, head low, panting, scanning environment, returned to handler when coaxed, allowed more pets.
