Nunu

Intake Info: Nunu (A2311626) was surrendered along with three other dogs due to the owner?s inability to properly care for and contain them, as they were frequently getting loose. Nunu is a handsome, chunky boy with a sweet and gentle disposition. Medical: Nunu is fully processed and current on all vaccines. On 11/21, he presented with bilateral mucopurulent ocular discharge. His lower eyelids appear ectropic, while the upper eyelids may have entropion, ectopic cilia cannot be ruled out. During the same visit, he showed difficulty eating a treat, holding his mouth open with hypersalivation and producing intermittent wet, gurgling noises from the oro/nasopharynx. He attempted to chew but repeatedly dropped the treat. While he can close his jaw, he continues to hold it open abnormally. He can swallow soft food but does so with gurgling or gagging sounds. No regurgitation has been reported. Concerns include elongated soft palate, upper airway swelling, dysphagia, or a potential esophageal abnormality/foreign body. He was not in respiratory distress and remained food-motivated. Nunu was later sedated for further evaluation. Findings included an elongated soft palate. Behavior Observations: Nunu presented with a neutral body and was easily steerable. In the yard, he explored calmly before socializing with another dog. He later engaged in light push/pull play with a female dog and interacted well with two male dogs. His dog-to-dog behavior has consistently been friendly and appropriate. Volunteer Notes: Volunteers describe Nunu as exceptionally sweet. He does not pull on leash, is easy to leash and walk, and shows no reactivity toward other dogs. He allows full body handling, enjoys affection, and appears to be housebroken. He knows ?sit,? takes treats gently, and has a very soft mouth. Overall, he is calm, gentle, and well-mannered. Request to Rescues: Nunu urgently needs rescue placement to address his complex medical concerns. He is experiencing difficulty eating and swallowing, abnormal open-mouth posture, stertorous/gurgling breathing, and ongoing ocular irritation. Findings from sedation and imaging indicate an elongated soft palate with possible esophageal involvement. Nunu would greatly benefit from advanced veterinary diagnostics and treatment to give him the chance he truly deserves.
