A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behaviormay change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.\" She was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. She entered the play yard with soft body language. She was approached by two dogs and tolerated them sniffing her. After the dogs broke away, she began to roam the yard and explore. She was tolerant of dogs trailing her to sniff her. She gave a show of teeth waming for space to a male Pitbull that lingered near her face. She then walked away. When he re-approached her, she gave multiple consecutive air snaps, over correcting him. She then continued to roam the yard to herself. After some time, she began to approach the other dogs and exchange soft greetings with them. She remained calm and social for the rest of her time in the yard, but she still appeared more tense around higher energy dogs. She would do best with a calm dog that will respect her space and boundanes. She did not approach the handlers fully and was wary if they approachedher, needing a slower approach. Due to her need for a go-slow approach and her timid behavior, she may do best in an adult only home or with older respectful kids. She would benefit from some confidence building and further socialization to walking on leash.
