Eclair is an adoptable female German Shepherd looking for a home at Maricopa County Animal Care & Control - West in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a young adult and large in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 2 days left, listed due to medical. Adopting Eclair, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Dog gently took hot dog treat. Dog pressed nose against door when handler attempted to leash, but slow to come out of kennel when actually leashed. Dog walked slowly next to handler, sniffing spots in the dirt while walking to new kennel building. Dog would occasionally loop behind handler, going back and forth from next to handler to behind handler. Easy to redirect. Dog stayed still and allowed gentle petting when handler was putting on PPE. Dog slowly walked through new kennel building, putting handler between dog and dogs inside kennels. Dog did not react when dogs were barking. Dog walked into new kennel on its own and allowed to be unleashed by hand. 8/24/2026 Timid, tail tucked, slow leashing with wide loop leash, allowed all handling and vaccine booster with muzzle wrap restraint, returned to kennel with no issue, slow leash removal. 8/16/2026 Dog was closed outside for cleaning, tail down, ears flat. Softened when coaxed, stepped forward and began wagging tail. Accepted treats through gate. A little head-shy of leash but allowed placement without issue. Walked loose leash, easily startled, needed some coaxing but no issues directing inside to M&G room. Dog paced room briefly, approached handler, head low, flinched when being petted, then settled, began leaning into it and would nudge face into handler's hands to seek more attention. Handler walked dog to main play yard, dog explored yard, tail down. Appeared nervous of surroundings but was able to engage with sniffing yard. Approached handler a few times, soft face, allowed petting, then wandered off. Followed handler to gate. Some zig-zag on return but able to be directed. Entered kennel easily, allowed leash removal by hand. *Potential adopters should be counseled on nervous dog behavior and understand that this dog may require an extended decompression period to feel safe and comfortable in a new home. A calm, structured environment, along with consistent support and patience, will be essential during the transition. Avoidant of leash, retreated to corner, ducked leash placement, took a few attempts to place leash due to dog pressing head against wall. Dog exited kennel, slow walk to yard, stop and go, tail partly tucked, wary of surroundings, continued walking with verbal coaxing and gentle leash pressure, ignored kenneled dogs. Dog paced around yard, eyes wide, panting heavily, drooling, tongue lolled, v-shaped commissure, urinating frequently, ignored treats tossed around yard. Dog eventually approached handler with verbal coaxing, low tail wags, head shy but allowed pets, moved in closer to handler, continued pacing yard once the petting stopped.
