This assessment should be considered a snapshot in time that will require updating as new information or behaviors emerge. It should not be relied upon to predict future behavior or as a statement of overall temperament. For additional information about an animal's behavior, please contact the animal care center. EVALUATION DATE: 2026-09-16 DOG SOCIAL SKILLS: NO OTHER DOGS (REC) i SMALL DOG SOCIAL \"OVERALL SCORE\": NEEDS ASSESSMENT i ENERGY LEVEL: MEDIUM i TRAINING RECOMMENDATION: IMPULSE CONTROL i EVALUATION COMMENTS: 'The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.' She was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. She entered the play yard with soft body language. She was approached by two dogs and tolerated them sniffing her, but she was timid. She gave an air snap warning for space when a male shepherd lingered near her face. After the dogs broke away, she began to roam the yard and explore. She was tolerant of dogs trailing her to sniff her. She continued to roam the yard to herself. She would approach the handlers and seek affection. A female shepherd play bowed at her and then began to playfully run. Luna became aroused by this, chased her while growling and trying to bite at her rear end. A handler was able to break her focus with the sound of a shaker can. She began to exchange some softer greetings with the calm dogs. She continued to show teeth or give air snap warnings for space to dogs that lingered near her face. She was far more comfortable with the very calm dogs. After a short time, dogs began running and playing again. She again became aroused by this, chasing, growling, and trying to bite them. A handler again had to break her focus using the sound of a shaker can and she was removed from the yard at this time. Due to being surrendered for having issues with the dog in the previous home, combined with her behavior in the play yard, which required repeated intervention from the handlers, she would likely do best as the only dog in the home.
