A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. Darby A5800550 (Altered) was at the front of the kennel with a relaxed demeanor when the runner arrived. He was leashed as he attempted to push his head out of the kennel. Darby exited the kennel on his own and proceeded to make his way to the catch pen with a moderate pull on the leash, bypassing his neighboring kennels. Once inside the catch pen, he remained calm during collar and leash placement. Darby initially entered the yard with a neutral posture, but his demeanor changed when one of the male dogs approached, causing him to become tense. Darby adopted a confrontational stance during the interaction but was easily redirected by the handlers. The other male dog was separated to prevent further conflict. He explored the environment while primarily sniffing the female dogs he encountered along the way. He was appropriate with his corrections when one of the male dogs attempted to mount him. For the rest of the session, Darby showed little interest in engaging in play, appearing more comfortable around the female dogs. Due to his selective behavior around other dogs, Darby could benefit from a female companion.
