A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. Lance A5801496 (Intact) was at the front of the kennel with a neutral demeanor upon the runner's arrival. He was easily leashed and exited the kennel on his own. Lance proceeded to lead the way with a strong pull on the leash, stopping on various occasions to mark along the way. Once inside the catch pen, Lance's posture became slightly tense, shifting most of his weight onto his front legs while sniffing the dogs through the fence. As a precaution, a muzzle along with a collar and leash were applied on Lance, requiring firm leash control to keep him still as he paced energetically and occasionally bit the muzzle as though it were a toy. He was then allowed into the yard, where he approached some of the dogs assertively, hovering over their necks and prompting the handlers to redirect him repeatedly. Lance was separated from the group as he began to mount the other dogs, causing them to respond defensively as he continued to ignore the handlers' corrections. Lance was allowed to decompress before being returned to his kennel without incident. Due to his impulsive behavior, Lance could benefit from a home without other dogs to prevent potential conflict.
