Recommendations FAMILY INTRODUCTION EXPERIENCED HANDLER GO SLOW OLDER CHILDREN Memo 9/19/2026 09/19/26 10:15 Due to persistent respiratory disease, place on portal urgent medical. If no resolution or outlet by COB on 09/28/26, then dog may be at risk for humane euthanasia on 09/29/26. Dog may be humanely euthanized earlier if QOL declines. Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 9/19/2026 dog did not eat day 1 9/15/2026 Dog did not eat day 2 already getting canned food. 9/14/2026 Dog did not eat. Day 1. 9/1/2026 Dog was laying in the outside portion of kennel when handler came to move dog. Handler whistled and called for dog, and dog slightly lifted head to look at handler but did not move. Handler went outside and offered hot dog treat to dog, but dog just sniffed it. When handler opened kennel door, dog did not move. Once leashed, dog slowly came out of kennel and walked very slowly next to handler. Entering new building, dog stopped at door for handler to open. Dog went right into new kennel and was able to unleash by hand. Dog did eat treat offered gently after being put into new kennel. 8/31/2026 Did not eat, Sleeping on bed, wouldnt come to door, refused offered treats 8/30/2026 Easy to pull from kennel, Easy to return to kennel, Takes treats nicely, Easy/Loose Leash, Somewhat Pulls on Leash, Calm, Ignored dogs when walking past kennels, Castle walked with me with a very nice pace. He pottied multiple times and seemed house trained. He took all his treats politely, enjoyed soft, calm pets and was such a GOOD boy! 8/29/2026 DNE day one. Low head, frozen stance. Did respond to me calling to kennel. 8/25/2026 Outside for AM cleaning laying down in middle of kennel with neutral body, got up when handler approached with tucked wagging tail, timid but came forward to sniff handler, not interested in treats offered. Easy leash placement at front of kennel, exited with easy leash pull, startled by reactive dogs in passing. Once in yard dog immediately found a place to urinate, would accept pets when finished. Would explore with neutral body, loose tail, starts to have wagging tail when called over by handler, accepted pets throughout evaluation with soft body, leans into handlers leg. No interest in toys or treats offered. Timid and startled by loud noises outside of yard but recovers quickly. Went potty and would stay close to handler remainder of evaluation accepting pets. Easy return to kennel, startled by reactive dogs in passing, walked into kennel on own and allowed handler to remove leash by hand. 8/24/2026 Dog was lying down in kennel on approach, offered treats, would come to front of kennel to sniff treats but did not eat them. Opened kennel gate & presented leash, would lower head while licking lips during leash placement. Walked out of kennel slowly with verbal coaxing, keeping tail partially tucked under body, wary of surroundings & startled by reactive dog while walking to small PY. Did a long shake off of body then explored with nose to ground. Would urinate for a long period of time then do another shake off of body. Handler called dog over, dog would approach handler while having a slow tail way, allowing petting along side of body & on head with no skin crawling or flinching. Continued to explore. Handler would stand & walk around, able to pick up dogs feces without issues while dog would be standing close to handler, would sniff back then walk away. Handler returned to chair, dog would approach handler then stand while facing opposite direction, looking around surroundings while being pet on side of body. Picked up leash & walked back to kennel. Would not have a reaction & would remain neutral while walking towards nearby kennels. Entered into kennel & allowed leash removal to be done by hand without issues. 8/23/2026 Dog was laying at front of kennel, stoic, slight tense body, no interest in treats. Stood when handler opened gate, head-shy of leash but allowed placement with large loop. Exited slowly. Began low growling when neighboring dogs became reactive; handler directed dog to building door with light leash pressure. Outside, dog walked loose leash, cautious, tense body language but no issues directing to small play yard. Handler kept hold of leash for a few moments to adjust leash stopper as dog would flinch hard and pull head back at any contact. Second handler distracted dog with verbal cues, first handler fixed stopper, dropped leash. Dog mostly stayed in place, stoic. No interest in treats. Handlers sat down. Dog slowly approached, stood close but remained stoic. Tolerated brief petting on top of head, then stood beside first handler while watching outside of yard. First handler said \"want to go for a walk?\" and dog's ears perked, tilted head, approached handler from front. Put paws onto second handler's chair, easily directed down. Allowed more brief gentle petting on back. Light pull on return, some loose leash, tense when nearing reactive dogs but no low growling heard. Entered kennel easily. Leash removed partially via clip lead, then pulled off rest of way by hand. 8/21/2026 day 1; dog didnt eat kibble offered. dog was seen didnt take treat, sitting calm at the kennel gate 8/21/2026 Laying down in middle of kennel, side eyed, and would not approach for treats. Requesting full eval based on kennel presence. 8/20/2026 Roaming loose in front parking lot, handler approached, dog walked away from handler. Dog approached stranger sat nearby. Stranger able to pet. Handler able to leash. Dog walked into Triage slowly, occasionally pausing. In room, dog kept neutral body. Whenerv handler walked around room, dog would follow. Tolerated petting. Declined treats offered. Tolerated restraint for vaccines. Walked to kennel, moving stop n go with lowered head when passing other dogs.
