Rune

Rune is an adoptable female Husky looking for a home at BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas. She is fully grown and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Rune, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

She received carprofen for 3 days. 💊 Carprofen 100 mg once daily x3 days ❤️ Heartworm negative / NAD 💉 Rabies, DA2PP-V and Bordetella given 💊 Dewormed and received flea prevention 🐾 BEHAVIOR NOTES: Rune is very timid and fearful in her kennel, but she has shown encouraging moments once outside. She walks on a loose leash and has relaxed with gentle affection, even gently hugging a staff member while being petted. She also came back when called and sat beside the handler. Volunteer comments; Rune appears to be a deeply frightened and overwhelmed girl who is struggling with the noise, movement and confinement of the shelter. Her notes repeatedly describe trembling, cowering, a tightly tucked tail, avoiding eye contact and startling at sudden noises or movements. Importantly, there are also glimpses of the dog underneath that fear: once outside, she has walked nicely on a loose leash, relaxed enough to open her mouth, gently nudged a staff member for pets, returned when called and sat, and has been observed resting quietly in her kennel. These moments suggest Rune may simply need time and a much calmer environment to feel safe. She would benefit from a quiet, patient foster or adopter willing to let her decompress at her own pace without forcing interaction. This scared girl desperately needs somewhere peaceful where she can begin to understand that she's safe.
