Tetsuo is an adoptable male American Staffordshire Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is senior and large in size. Tetsuo is a sweet senior gentleman who is hoping someone will see just how much life and love he still has to give. Estimated to be around 10 years old, Tetsuo came to ACCT after being found resting outside a Shell gas station. Despite everything he has been through, he has remained friendly, tolerant, and easy to handle. When staff approached his kennel, Tetsuo greeted them with soft eyes, relaxed ears, and gentle tail wags. He was easy to leash and happily headed outside, where he immediately took care of business and enjoyed sniffing around the yard. He may not be the type to constantly ask for attention, but he is comfortable being handled and seems to appreciate having the freedom to explore at his own pace. Tetsuo is currently carrying some extra weight, which has made getting around more difficult for him. He has a choppy gait and has difficulty with stairs, standing, and stepping onto the scale, so a home that can accommodate his mobility needs will be important. He also has some age-related changes, including dental tartar and cloudy eyes. His veterinary team noted some panting and increased respiratory sounds and recommends that he leave the shelter environment quickly, as developing an upper respiratory infection could cause him to decline rapidly. Tetsuo has shown that he can walk nicely with some gentle guidance and is easily redirected when distracted. He has shown interest in other dogs, though his interactions should be carefully managed and introduced appropriately. He would benefit from a calm environment where he can decompress and enjoy his golden years. Tetsuo is in urgent need of rescue placement. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and came right out of kennel. Mildly pulls on leash, immediately went to the bathroom. Sociability: Tolerant of handling however did not solicit for pets. He was more interested in sniffing the yard. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Pulled hard towards Bonnie. Able to sniff and then attempted to mount. Bonnie turned air snapping at him. Moved away by handler and then he pulled towards her again. Able to be redirected and do a parallel walk Return to Kennel: Pulled towards kennels of dogs that were barking. went right into kennel and removed leash with hand. Color Level: Exp Gold Per staff 9/17/26: BAR, friendly, allowed handling, did not react at all during vaccines or chip placement Per staff 9/17/26: Seized dog that was found laying at shell gas station. Dog is elderly allows handling very social walks with minor assistance unable to climb stairs. Medical Notes: 9/18/26: Tetsuo was bright, alert, and well hydrated on exam. He is obese with a BCS of 8/9 and has a choppy gait likely related to his weight, although he remains ambulatory on all four limbs. He has moderate dental tartar and nuclear sclerosis in the eyes. He was panting with slightly increased respiratory sounds, which may be related to stress, though chronic lower airway disease or another cause cannot be ruled out. No heart murmur, arrhythmia, obvious crackles, or wheezing were noted. His skin, abdomen, lymph nodes, neurologic function, and external genitalia were otherwise unremarkable. Radiographs could not be performed due to staffing limitations and his large size, but chest X-rays should be considered if his respiratory signs persist or worsen. Due to concern that he could decline quickly if he develops an upper respiratory infection in the shelter, the veterinary team recommends promoting Tetsuo to rescue for an expedited exit. 9/17/26: Approximately 10 year old male dog presenting with waxy, scarred ears with thickened pinnae, skin tags on legs, and tartar and staining on teeth. He is noted to obese and had difficulty walking, standing, and stepping onto scale. He was panting and breathing hard during exam even at points where his respiratory rate should have slowed due to resting. ' Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
