Happy is an adoptable female American Staffordshire Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is fully grown and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 4 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Happy, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Happy ACCT-A-107480 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Happy is a sweet, silly, affectionate girl with a BIG personality'and her name couldn't be more perfect! This lovable pup is happiest when she's getting attention from her people, exploring the outdoors, and, most importantly, playing in the water! Happy absolutely LOVES the pool and will happily jump right in for a swim, splash around, and enjoy every second of her water time. If you're looking for a dog who will make summer infinitely more fun, Happy is your girl! Happy is an enthusiastic, playful pup who loves getting outside and having a good time. She's generally easy to leash, walks nicely, and enjoys exploring her surroundings. She's also smart and knows several commands, including sit, stay, lay down, and crate. She's affectionate and loves getting scratches and attention, and volunteers describe her as sweet, gentle, and easy to handle. She has a wonderfully goofy side, too'she can be bouncy and silly and has no problem showing you exactly how happy she is to see you! Happy has participated in playgroups and has shown that she can enjoy the company of other dogs, but she also has some strong opinions about personal space. For this reason, she may prefer being the only dog in a home, where she can soak up all the attention and be the queen of her castle. Happy is also looking for an adult-only home. She has a history of struggling with children, so she'll need a family who understands her boundaries and can give her the calm, predictable environment she needs to thrive. She has previously lived with a cat and did well, although all pet introductions should always be handled thoughtfully. Once she knows her people, Happy has so much love and personality to give. She's affectionate, playful, smart, adventurous, and absolutely obsessed with water. Give her a pool, some sunshine, a few good scratches, and a person to love, and you may just have her version of a perfect day. Per staff 9/16/26: In ISO playgroup on 9/15 Happy was playing in the pool. When other dogs came up to the pool Happy would snarl at them with a tense body, ears back, front paw lifted. Playgroup 9/6/26: Very steerable. First dog in the yard (Helper dog). Good corrections with Cedric who was being overly pushing and not taking the corrections. Removed Cedric and brought Teo in. Happy began snarling at Teo for coming up to her. Removed from the yard. Playgroup 9/4/26: First dog in the yard. Bouncy moves, tolerant and loves the pool. Remains steerable with spray bottle (4/5). Like previously, romped around, exchanged good greetings, enjoyed jumping in and out of the pools. (Observed no defensive reactivity around the pools nor other dogs this time.) Per volunteer 09/02/2026: Kennel presentation: Happy was very excited at the front of her kennel. She was whining with some barking. Opening her kennel door she allowed me to leash her with no issues and hopped right out. Leash skills: walks well on leash but pulls minimally/ moderately. Happy is housebroken and trying to stay housebroken. Sociability: in the yard Happy was very loose with me. She allowed all handling and even leaned in to solicit attention. She gave soft eyes, and mid tail wags. Dog meet: Happy Met Marquan and was very tolerant of him. She stayed neutral throughout the meet. Returning to kennel: had to throw a treat in her kennel to return. Toys and play: no interest Playgroup 9/2/26: Steer test 4/5 with both water and can good gate greetings. Hackles raised when greeting the only other female dog in the yard. Some quick, bouncy moves and then mingled around. Loves the pool. At one point she was in the pool and doman came over to her and she gave a lip curl Playgroup 9/1/26: Steer test 5/5 with water and can Tail down, wide eyes and ears to the side. Tolerant, moved away, drooling and owner searching. Once Ramsey came into the yard they had good greetings with quick, bouncy moves. Per owner 8/31/26: Happy was surrendered by her owner of 2 years due to not getting along with their senior small dog. She has gotten in two unprovoked altercations with the dog within a year of each other. The owner emphasized that she is a wonderful dog and has been great with the kids (11 months and 4 years), just needs to be the only dog in the home. allows all over handling by children. they also have a cat, she has been fine with the cat, had no issues. only problems have been with resident dog, who she mostly gets along with but has attacked twice (both times while being outside). They described her as being fully housebroken, crate trained, high energy, enjoys walks, and walks well on leash. She knows commands: sit, stay, lay down, and crate. She has some skin allergies, enjoys stuffies, and is fine with strangers, children, cats, and it varies when it comes to other dogs. The family recommended a home with no small dogs. Per staff 4/8/26: Became aggressive with children, ages 8 and 10. Owners said it happened out of nowhere as one of the children walked by Per owner 4/8/22: Happy was surrendered by her owner due to not being suitable for their family and being kid aggressive. She lived with an adult and 4 kids and was described as being excitable, easily distracted, hyperactive, and recently became reactive to their children without them provoking. She loves hugs and kisses, and knows sit and stay. They did note that she has recently become 'aggressive' and will growl, bark, and tear up furniture and clothing. She did attempt to bite the child in the home when he walked past her but it did not break skin. She will tug on leash and reportedly does not follow commands. They recommended a home without children due to needing a lot of attention and having separation anxiety. Per staff 1/30/26: 1/30 eval Happy was easily leashed in kennel and removed. In the eval room he was very sweet and gentle. He solicited attention and was very playful (did not get jumpy though). Per staff 1/30/26: Absolutely sweet! Allowed me to pick her up like a baby and give her puppy smooches. Does nibble a little but nothing bad! Per finder 1/26/22: Very happy ' Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
