Talin is an adoptable male Dutch Shepherd looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with just one day left, listed due to behavior. Adopting Talin, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Talin ACCT-A-260181 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. This sweet and gentle soul is looking for a patient partner to help him navigate the world. While he might start off a little shy, it doesn't take long for him to warm up. Especially if you have a tasty treat to offer! Once he feels comfortable, his true personality shines; he's a \"lean-in\" kind of guy who will happily snuggle right next to you while you're hanging out. Talin walks beautifully on a loose leash. He knows his \"sit\" command and is very polite and gentle when taking treats. When it comes to other dogs, he has shown a range of social behaviors and can be quite tolerant and communicative. He is a smart boy who responds well to positive reinforcement and gentle handling. He is looking for a home with kids 12+ due to fearfulness so he can decompress and blossom into the sweet and loyal boy we know he can be. Loved the ball & squeakys! 9/20 - Perfect angel *NEW!* 9/22 staff adoption meet notes: 'Talin was able to sniff out their dog just fine but then a long stream of drool and low growl tense posture ears forward hackles started to raise. I pulled him closer to me when it seems Talin was ready to neck. Resident dog started backing up and barking so we ended the meet. I would also note that on the walk he was fixated and over aroused in the areas that barn cats tend to hang out at. Had to apply a lot of leash pressure to get him away he even got physically aroused near the trailers. So potentially not safe candidate for a home with cats other than breed consideration.' On 9/20 per volunteer: Was at the front of his kennel, looking at me every time I walked by. When I approached his kennel, he had a neutral body and wide eyes. I easily leashed him on the first try and then he hopped right out of kennel. He walks very nicely on leash with just some minimal pulling. Such an angel for handling! Met multiple new handlers and took pets from all of us and took treats very gently out of my hand. He showed me that he knows sit and was a very calm dog overall today. Took him to the photo shoot and he let us put a Cape on him without any issues. Should be able to be leveled down to gold, but I will need to look at all of his notes. On 9/19 per volunteer: He was a great boy for me today! He was very easy to leash and walked well with me to the yard. He loved pets in the yard! And fetching the ball, and playing with squeaky toys. On 9/17 per staff: Due to behavioral changes, this dog is being leveled up to Blue based on the notes from the volunteer on 9/16 On 9/17 per volunteer: Talin was at the front of the kennel with wide /soft eyes, ears to the side and mid tail loosely wagging. He was easy to leash and came right out of kennel. Walked on a loose leash all the way to the yard and back from the yard. In the yard he picked up a toy and played with it. Took treats gently and knows sit. Tolerant of handling. He went right into his kennel and I removed the leash with my hand slowly On 9/16 per staff: A volunteer let me know that when she approached Talin's kennel to take him out, he barked at her, pulled his lips back to show his teeth, and then snapped at her through the kennel. She visited him 3 different times and he did this each time. When I visited his kennel, he was retreated in the back side of his kennel with whale eyes. On 9/12 per Pupventure: \"We drove 1/2 hour to Neshaminy State Park and Talin loved exploring (and drinking) from the Delaware River and the beaches. After 3 miles we stopped for a picnic lunch on the PupVenture provided blanket. He wanted belly rubs so he got some! He was friendly with all passerby folks and didn't bark once. Talin hardly pulled at all - seemed very interested and friendly with other dogs and didn't lunge or react. He loved to sniff every single tree possible. Squirrels were an interest but not crazily. Then we went to Lowe's to pickup some potting soil and mulch - but Pupventure Dad saw an awesome plant on clearance and Talin helped me pack up the car but it was a tight squeeze. I loooove 🚘 car rides. I fell asleep each time and sometimes I would hide where the feet go in the backseat area to get cooler from the vents. Before my PupVenture dad brought me back we went to Dunkin and he got a coffee and I got a pup cup. YUM!!!\" On 9/3 per staff: Playgroup Notes - Steer test 1/5 with water and 1-2 with can. Good gate greetings. Came into the yard and immediately went to hump and was persistent about it. On 9/2 per staff: Playgroup Notes - Steer test 3/5 with water and can. Good gate greetings. Mingled around the yard. Tolerant and moved away. On 9/1 per staff: Kennel Presentation: At the front of the kennel when I approached. Wide eyes, ears to the side and tail down not moving. Offered a treat and he took it gently, then his tail began to wag. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and came right out of kennel. Walks on a loose leash, did a shake off as we got to the end of kennels. Sociability: Leaned into all handling. I was crouched down and he came over and just laid right next to me. Take treats gently and knows sit. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met nana. When he saw her coming up to the yard he began to whine and his tail was wagging. Good gate greetings. Tolerant and moved away on his own. Return to Kennel: Hesitated to go into kennel. Tossed a treat in and removed leash with hand Color Level: Exp Gold On 9/1 per staff: Playgroup Notes - Steer test 4/5 with water and 5/5 with can. Tail down and wide eyes at the fence greetings.
