Tsumo

Tsumo is an adoptable male American Bulldog looking for a home at Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control in West Palm Beach, Florida. He is a young adult and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with just one day left, listed due to other. Adopting Tsumo, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

ntake Info: This dog was brought to the shelter on 9/6/26 as a stary. We scanned the dog and tried to contact the owner who said that her son was going to come to the shelter to owner surrender the dog. The son didn't come to the shelter, the owner declined 2 further calls. This dog went to one of our rescue partners and was returned the next day due to reported reactivity in the kennel, growling, barking & jumping at staff. This dog's name is Tsumo Medical: Tsumo is a 5 year old neutered male who is UTD on vaccine & HW negative. Ob 9/8/26 our vets noted the following - Mild dental tartar, worn teeth. No significant heart or lung abnormalities. Poor coat quality, brittle fur. Previously noted hot spot on face that seems to be resolving, treated with prednisone oral, cytopoint injection, and convenia injection. HS-2. No obviously palpable testicles, suggestive of previous neuter. On 9/18/26 after being returned Tsumo had a vet exan and the following was noted - easy to remove from kennel. When went to palpate abdomen for physical exam started growling Behaviors: Tsumo was in 2 playgroup, Tsumo was in the yard with Destiel, cooper, Nina, Biscuit, Ramona, Ginger, and Kylo. he engaged in push pull play. Tsumo was sitting at the front of his kennel with a relaxed body and soft eyes. I went into the kennel. Tsumo did a couple of playful hops but sat when he saw the Nudge Jerky treat. I leashed him up and brought him to the patio. On the Patio Tsumo went pee/poop and then sniffed around for a bit, a staff member kneeled and began to baby talk him. Tsumo came over and solicited affection, but would flinch when they went over his head, however he still allowed for the petting. He allowed pet on his hips and he stiffened up and lip licked, so they stopped. Tsumo followed me around the patio as I was the one with the treat bag. I had him come over to me and started to give him treats after touching his hips and he slowly loosened up about it. Another member of staff did the same and he lessened his flinch when she went over his head for pets. Tsumo may solicit affection but still lacks some confidence during social interactions with new people. Tsumo shows discomfort during vet exams as they require lots of poking and touching without him getting to know what's going on or who the person is doing it. I recommend bringing lots of high value treats and letting him get comfortable with the handlers, then using less is more tactics to gain his compliance. Staff Notes: Prior to starting processing dog had relaxed body language, allowed pets all over and was affectionate.
