Stenson

Stenson is an adoptable male Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler looking for a home at The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with just one day left, listed due to behavior. Adopting Stenson, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Stenson is not adapting well to the shelter environment and exhibiting signs of fear and kennel distress. Stenson was found running the streets and was timid with the person who found him. When being brought to the shelter, he was tense, thrashing and biting at the leash when he was leashed up, scared boy who is unsure. In the kennel, he is giving some low tail wags and curious. When the leash is presented, he is avoiding and snapping at the leash. Behavior staff was able to get the leash on and with slow coaxing and soft talk, he walked out on his own. Staff to him to a quieter room so he could decompress. In the room, he was seeking some comfort from staff and tolerated all handling. After some time, his body started to relax more and he started to wander around. Although he might have some neck sensitivities, the collar he was found with was a little tight. This animal would benefit from a quieter place to adjust and become more comfortable with social and environmental changes. This dog does not appear to be leash trained at this time. They are apprehensive about the leash and may try to avoid it. When on leash, they do not walk consistently and often resist by stopping or refusing to move. With patience and positive reinforcement, they have the potential to improve significantly. This animal needs placement by 10/2 at 3 PM.
