About Thor

Thor is an adoptable male Husky looking for a home at Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control in West Palm Beach, Florida. He is a young adult and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to other. Adopting Thor, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Intake Info: Thor arrived in early August. Initial reports indicated he was good with kids and dogs, but microchip research revealed a 2025 bite history. The previous owner reported Thor bit them after becoming offensive with another dog; he was later rehomed, but contact info for the new owner was unavailable. On September 19th, Thor was returned from a Foster2Adopt home after two days due to separation anxiety and lack of appetite. On September 25th, he entered another Foster2Adopt home but was returned that night after biting the foster's thumb (no skin broken) when she pushed him off her. Medical: Healthy, neutered, and vaccinated 2-year-old male. Behaviors Observed: Thor socializes well with both males and females in playgroups; he can be humpy but is steerable with aversives. He is non-reactive to other dogs when exiting or entering kennels and handles loop leashing and slip lead removal without issue. While he initially ignored treats during walks, he allows full-body handling. During muzzle wrap simulations, Thor became apprehensive but responded well to spray cheese and basket muzzle repetitions. He tolerated simulated needle pinches with added pressure. Staff recommend a muzzle acclimation plan using the \"less is more\" process. Staff Notes: In August, Thor greeted staff eagerly and remained non-reactive to other dogs during walks, though he pulled hard on the lead. On September 6th, Thor bit a kennel tech's arm (no skin broken) during a muzzle wrap attempt. This demonstrated bite inhibition and communication of discomfort. Cooperative care training with treat distractions is recommended. Volunteer Notes: He pulls hard on the leash. He knows sit and paw. Appears housebroken. Request to Rescues: Urgent rescue is needed for Thor as his behavioral needs exceed our capacity for care. He has a bite history and has been returned twice due to behavior. He has attempted to bite staff and attempted to bite the previous owner without breaking skin, in addition to the confirmed bite history. Thor needs behavioral modification and training. It is recommended this dog be transported in a crate. Thor needs a rescue who understands this breed, can give him the training and attention he requires and the safe and comfortable home he deserves.
