Draco
Pit Bull Terrier (mix breed)
Urgent: 1 Day Left
Scheduled: October 4, 2026
Reason: Other
Draco is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control in West Palm Beach, Florida. He is a young adult and large in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with just one day left, listed due to other. Adopting Draco, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.
Intake Info: This precious boy is Draco (A2320359). He was reported to be frequently off leash, and the source stated that he had been chased by him. No injuries were reported, but the source indicated that Draco being loose has been an ongoing concern. Medical: Draco is a 2-year-old neutered boy who is heartworm positive and up to date on vaccines. He has completed treatment for kennel cough. Volunteer Notes: Draco has been calm and gentle with volunteers. He is food motivated, knows how to sit, and has been easy to leash when given patience and time to settle. He walked well and remained well behaved, even when he was the last dog taken out. Behavior Notes: Draco has participated in multiple playgroups and has engaged in play with numerous dogs. He has demonstrated appropriate interactions and corrections at times. However, he can become highly aroused during play and has displayed conflict-driven behavior. Draco has also been observed engaging in rough and rowdy play and inserting himself into conflicts between other dogs. During a recent play session, Draco became stiff following an interaction with another dog and an altercation occurred. Staff were able to separate the dogs, but the other dog sustained some bruising. Staff Notes: Draco was reported by the source to have a history of going after turkeys and chickens and is now labeled a Dog of Concern by our shelter. He is not recommended to be housed, maintained, visited, or allowed to run at large in areas where small livestock are present unless closely monitored to help prevent injury to smaller animals. At this time, there is no substantial evidence demonstrating that any livestock, including chickens, roosters, or turkeys, sustained injuries. Request to Rescues: This handsome boy is in urgent need of rescue placement. Draco will need a rescue that can provide structure, continued behavior support, and he will need careful management in situations where he may become highly aroused. Also, due to his history with livestock (that was reported) and the recent conflict during playgroup, a rescue should be prepared to manage him appropriately around small animals and carefully assess his compatibility with other dogs. Draco is also heartworm positive and will need continued medical care and treatment for his heartworm disease through a private veterinarian.
