Petey

Petey is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Prince Georges County Animal Services in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. He is a young adult and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with just one day left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Petey, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Petey has such a soft, thoughtful face ' and that seems to fit this boy pretty well. ❤️ He's not coming into the shelter acting like the life of the party. Instead, Petey seems a little unsure of everything happening around him and could really use someone who will give him the time and confidence to figure things out. During his dog evaluation, Petey did pretty well. He seemed somewhat nervous, but he was able to walk side-by-side with another dog, coexist comfortably, and exchange some polite sniffs. He even managed a brief face-to-face greeting before both dogs moved on. 🐶 Toward the end of the evaluation, Petey started checking in more with his handler ' a really nice sign from a dog who may just need a little time before he decides you're someone he can trust. Petey doesn't appear to know many cues yet, and right now he seems more interested in quietly exploring his surroundings than demanding attention. He doesn't pull on leash, and his energy was fairly subdued during his evaluation. He also seemed a little unsure during his food evaluation, but nothing observed suggested aggression. And amid all the noise and chaos of a busy shelter day, volunteers went to check on Petey and found him simply resting quietly in his kennel. 🥹 There's something really endearing about this gentle guy. He doesn't seem to be asking for much ' just a little patience, reassurance, and the opportunity to gain confidence at his own pace. Petey may not be the dog making the biggest show from behind the kennel door, but sometimes the quieter ones are the ones who need us to look a little closer. This sweet boy deserves someone willing to help him discover that the world can be a safe and happy place.
