A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out'or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. He was tense with concerned eyes but tolerated the runner clasping the collar around his neck without issue. He remained tense with a high curved tail while greeting several dogs through the play yard fence. He was brought into the yard on a long, loose leash. He slowly entered the yard, scanning the area for the other dogs. An energetic young, female shepherd came up to greet him. He froze with hackles raised, tolerating her sniffing his body while he turned his head away. After allowing her to sniff him for a few seconds, he walked away and resumed roaming calmly. He turned to avoid a calm, male cattle dog who came up to greet him as he roamed. A few moments later, an energetic female husky came up to him. He tolerated her sniffing his body but as she came up to his face, he lip curled with hackles raised, not comfortable with the face lingering. He resumed exploring, keeping to himself. He began approaching the handlers to solicit affection with a loose body and neutral tail wag. He was much more relaxed around the handlers than the dogs. Periodically another dog would approach, and he would respond by raising his hackles with a high curved tail. He gave two more lip curl warnings to the cattle dog and husky when they came up directly to him. He did not relax while in the yard and appears to be under socialized. His warnings were appropriate and respected by all dogs. He was removed from the yard to avoid causing any further stress to him. BEHAVIORALLY OK FOR PUBLIC ADOPTION, NO DOGS (REC), LOW ENERGY
