About Aliyah

Aliyah is an adoptable female Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is fully grown and medium in size. She is listed on the shelter's euthanasia list, listed due to behavior, and that date has now passed. Shelters often move these dates, so Aliyah may still be waiting. The shelter can confirm.

Aliyah ACCT-A-262210 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Aliyah must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11TH at 10AM. Should Aliyah's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Aliyah came to ACCT Philly as a stray on September 19th and is a playful, affectionate girl who loves attention and time outside. She enjoys sitting in laps for pets, giving kisses, and playing fetch with toys and balls. She knows sit and can be very engaged with people, especially when treats and toys are involved. Aliyah struggles with dog reactivity and can become highly fixated, tense, and vocal when other dogs are nearby, sometimes lunging and biting at barriers. She has shown that she can redirect her attention to a person for treats with distance and guidance, suggesting she could benefit from continued training and support. Due to her behavioral concerns, Aliyah is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter. Slightly jumpy. Loves balls. Per walksheet 10/4: Very good girl. Per walksheet 10/4: Good on walk and on leash. Per walksheet 10/3: Very good girl. Per walksheet 10/2: High energy. VERY difficult to return. Flailing. Tossed treats to distract. Very fun with balls in the yard. Per walksheet 9/29: Good girl. Per staff 9/28: Meeting Davi: Highly fixated and frantic. Showed no interest in sniffing or curiosity of his scent. Her handler worked with her at a distance to get focus and engagement on her, then we made our way closer. She is very biddable so training is possible to work on her reaction towards other dogs, as it worked quickly with relatively minimal practice reps. We did not feel it was safe to allow them to be any closer or remove the protected contact. Adding bad dog meet attribute. Per staff 9/28: Walk sheet notes indicated she's been challenging to return to kennel, although we did not experience this tonight. Per staff 9/28: Kennel Presentation: Was eating a treat in the back of her kennel when I approached. Came to the front when she finished and put her front paws on the door ears forward, soft eyes, mid level tail wags, barking. Ate the treat that I tossed in. Leash Skills: Easy to leash, once out pulled towards the other dogs in the room tense body, hackles raised, ears forward. Kept a shorter leash and she kept moving with leash pressure. Pulled moderately on leash while walking, mid tail wags, looser body. Sociability: When there was a dog in the other yard, tenser body, ears back, mid tail wags, allowed all handling then would return attention to the dog. Once there was no longer a dog, loose body, mid to low tail wags, ears back, softer eyes. Takes treats gently, when a dog was in the other yard was snatchier with treats. Knows sit. Dog Interaction: Met another dog at the fence, pulled strongly, tense body, muzzle punched and bit the fence, pacing the fence line. Went into the other yard and worked with bringing her attention to me. Able to get within a foot of another dog and redirect with calling to her and rewarding with a treat. Would get snatchier the closer we got to the other dog. Once he left, looked for him at the fence with a high still tail, ears forward, tense body. Return to Kennel: Walked back pulling moderately. Slowed down when closer to her kennel, went right in and leash was removed by hand. Color Level: Blue Per volunteer 9/24: Aliyah greeted me with her paws on her kennel door - she was ready to come out and get some yard time. She was a little too curious about the dogs in the other kennels, as we came out of the shelter, so we tried to quickly pass them. When I sat down on the bench, she jumped right up on my lap, giving kisses and encouraging me to give her pets. I tossed her a stuff toy, she fetched it and brought it back, so we played that a couple of times. I put a couple of treats in the holey treat ball, and she eventually learned to roll it, so the treats would fall out. She found a big soft ball that she played with as it rolled around. She was so funny trying to catch it and run with it - hopping and happy! She was more playful and engaging with me today, than she was for the photo shoot. Aliyah is so cute, cuddly, and fun, and her manners are pretty good, only a little jumpy for treats. Per walksheet 9/23: Medium energy. Mild issues getting out of kennel, moderate issues returning. Mild issues on leash. Sweet. Per staff 9/22, playgroup: Did not make it into playgroup. Tense eyes, stiff body at the gate. When another dog came up, Aliyah snapped right at his face. As the ACA was moving her away she lunged forward and muzzle punched the gate. Per staff 9/21, playgroup: Did not make it into playgroup. Was waiting for a few minutes before coming up to the fence. When she was at the fence, high pitch vocalizing, muzzle punching and bit the fence. Per walksheet 9/21: Medium energy. Slight issues getting out of kennel, significant issues returning. Moderate issues on leash. Slightly jumpy. Leash shy - VERY difficult to get her back in kennel, had to be bodily picked up - lunges a lot on leash. Per volunteer 9/20: Aliyah was well-mannered in her kennel when I went to get her for the photo shoot. She was a little nervous and several times moved back from my leash, and once leashed, she was stronger than I expected for a smaller dog. She relieved herself outside so might be trying to say house trained. She had a nice well mannered interaction through the fence with another dog. In the yard, she showed me she knew the sit cue, and she was gentle taking treats. She sat in front of me for pets, looked up at me when I stopped, and even gave me a quick kiss. She didn't have much interest in the toys, just briefly chased those I tossed, smelled them and then moved along. She is a cute girl, a tad skinny, with some fur thinning on her back. And she has what I like to call a lazy ear - one is up and perky, the other not so much - it just makes her more adorable. Per finder 9/19: Found 3 days ago but was finally able to catch.'Playful with strangers, children, and other animals. I attempted to walk on leash she was not good. Friendly. MEDICAL NOTES: Aliyah'is currently being treated for an upper respiratory infection (URI) or \"doggy cold.\" URIs are contagious to other dogs, but not to people or other types of animals. -- Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
