German Shepherd
We do not know what happened to Maximillion
The date this shelter listed for Maximillion has passed. Shelters often push these dates back, and many pets are adopted or pulled by a rescue first, so Maximillion may still be there. The shelter can tell you.
Maximillion is an adoptable male German Shepherd looking for a home at NYC ACC-Queens in Ridgewood, New York. He is senior and large in size. He is listed on the shelter's euthanasia list, listed due to medical, and that date has now passed. Shelters often move these dates, so Maximillion may still be waiting. The shelter can confirm.
This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Maximilion at-risk list due to ongoing medical concerns including weight gain and skin changes, and low activity levels. He has developed areas of lichenification or thickening of the skin affecting his abdomen and ears, as well as hair loss along his tail. An underlying endocrine condition such as hypothyroidism is suspected based on bloodwork abnormalities and further veterinary evaluation may be indicated. He would benefit from continued monitoring, a weight management plan and potentially medications. Maximilian is a very sweet, affectionate boy who tolerates handling and even carried his favorite toy with him on his way to his exam. What my friends at ACC say about me: I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I am looking for a home with a patient person. A volunteer writes: If you've seen me in the last few weeks, then you've heard me talk about Maximillion. I am totally in love with this sweet, gentle senior and everyone should know about it! I don't know if it's the way he nudges my hands as we walk, or how he seems constantly in tune with me when we walk or if it's how in spite of his 8 years, he still acts like a puppy. Max will roll around on the ground, demand belly rubs and give puppy eyes for more treats. The fact that he's not my typical "type" of dog, per se, makes me just adore him all the more. Maximillion was surrendered when his owner was facing health concerns and due to his own health concerns. His guardian noted he was moving around more slowly and losing hair, which made it hard for him to care for him properly. He lived in the same home for the last 6 years and was noted to be friendly towards dogs and kids (he has no experience with cats). He's described as social and affectionate, loves car rides, has never been in a cage and loves all treats and toys. When asked what his favorite thing about Max was, his guardian said, "I got nothing favorite. I just love him the way he is." Our sentiments exactly.
