About Lucille

Lucille is an adoptable female Poodle looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is fully grown and medium in size. She is listed on the shelter's euthanasia list, listed due to lack of space, and that date has now passed. Shelters often move these dates, so Lucille may still be waiting. The shelter can confirm.

Lucille ACCT-A-261788 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Lucille must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by Thursday, October 15th 2026 at 10AM. Should Lucille's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Meet Lucille, a sweet and sensitive girl who is ready to find a safe place to call home! After being found tied to a tree, Lucille is looking for a patient, understanding person who will help her discover that the world can be a kind and comforting place. She may be a little unsure of things at first, but once she starts to feel safe, her affectionate personality shines. Lucille loves attention and gentle pets, often leaning right into you or placing her front paws in your lap to get a little closer. She's also very treat-motivated, responds beautifully to praise and encouragement, and has a softer, more relaxed side that makes everyone who meets her fall in love. Lucille is a lovely walking companion who is easy to leash and walks beautifully on a loose leash. She has a low-to-medium energy level and enjoys spending time with her people without needing to be constantly on the go. She can be startled by loud noises and sudden movements, so she'll appreciate a quiet, calm environment where she can settle in at her own pace. With patience, reassurance, and plenty of positive reinforcement, Lucille has the potential to blossom into a wonderful companion. When it comes to meeting other dogs, Lucille can be nervous and prefers to keep her distance. She has shown avoidant behavior around other dogs and may react defensively when she feels uncomfortable, so she would likely do best as the only pet in the home. She is a people-loving girl once she warms up, but because she can be sensitive and fearful, an adult-only home is preferred. She'll thrive with someone who can respect her boundaries and provide the calm, predictable environment she needs to feel secure. Lucille deserves a home where she can finally feel safe, build confidence, and enjoy all the little things that make life wonderful. If you have a calm home, a patient heart, and room for a loving companion who just needs a little extra time to feel safe, Lucille may be the perfect girl for you! Lucille is a sensitive, sweet soul who is looking for a patient partner to help her navigate the world. While the shelter environment can be a bit overwhelming for her at first, her true personality shines through once she feels safe. She is a master at \"appeasement kisses\" and will gently lean into you for pets, even placing her front paws in your lap to make sure she's close enough for all the snuggles. On walks, Lucille is a total pro. She walks beautifully on a loose leash and is very easy to handle. She can be a little startled by loud noises or fast movements, so she would thrive best in a quiet, calm neighborhood where she can take in the sights and sounds at her own pace. When it comes to making friends, Lucille is a \"people person\" through and through. Once she warms up, she's known to jump up gently to solicit pets and will stay close to her favorite humans. She is still learning how to feel comfortable around other dogs'she tends to be a bit shy and avoidant'so she'd likely prefer a home where she can be the center of your universe or live with a very calm, respectful canine companion. If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who just needs a little extra love to blossom, Lucille is waiting to meet you! Per staff 9/30/26: I was in ISO and a volunteer asked me to hold her leash while they spot cleaned her kennel. She had just gotten off of quarantine so I think she had a lot of pent up energy. She was very food motivated and ate treats as I tossed them around the room for her to eat. She jumped up very gently and was tolerant of pets. Per staff 9/19/26: Best suited for older kids in the home. Whole family must meet. Needs a quiet and calm home that has knowledge of acclimating a fearful dog into their home. Not a busy neighborhood either Per staff 9/19/26: Kennel Presentation: Came to the front of the kennel with wide/soft eyes, ears to the side and mid tail loosely wagging. Sociability: I sat down and she immediately came over placing her front paws on my lap. Leaned into all handling and would get closer when I stopped petting. When the other handler was in the yard for the dog meet she kept trying to go over to him. Jumped up on him and solicited for pets. Brought into the volunteer room so another dog could walk past. She went up to the two staff members in there with a low body, wide eyes and mid tail slowly wagging. Gave appeasement kisses. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met sweetie. Avoidant, moved away and was able to sniff. When they went face to face Lucille did bare teeth. Return to Kennel: Went right back into kennel and removed leash with hand.
