A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out'or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. She slowly approached the handler with concerned eyes and a low tail. She was hesitant coming up the last few feet and needed coaxing. She sat and gave the handler her paw, placing it on his lap. The handler stood up and attempted to stand next to her. She was not comfortable with him there and constantly turned to face him with wide eyes. She tolerated her ears and teeth being looked at while remaining tense. She was not comfortable with any part of the lower part of her body being touched and quickly moved away from him. When the handling assessment was concluded she did sit and give the handler her front paw once more, appearing to want attention and affection. She needs trust building, a go-slow approach and further socialization. She is resistant walking on leash and needs lots of coaxing. Due to history in the previous home of randomly snapping at people, she is designated as BEHAVIORALLY OK FOR PUBLIC ADOPTION, ADULTS (REQ), NO DOGS (REC), LOW ENERGY WITH KNOWN HISTORY OF AGGRESSION DISCLOSURE
