A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.' She was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. She entered the play yard with soft body language. She was approached by a male Akita mix and exchanged a soft greeting with him. She then approached a female mastiff and exchanged a soft greeting with her. She began to calmly roam the yard and explore. She was tolerant of dogs trailing her to sniff her. She continued to calmly roam the yard and exchange soft greetings with the other dogs. A male Akita mix playfully pawed at her to entice play. She offered no corrections to this, but she declined his invitations to play. She remained calm and social for the rest of her time in the yard, but she appeared more comfortable around the calmer dogs. There were dogs playing during her time in the yard, but she did not engage in or entice any play. She would approach the handlers and seek affection. She is social with the other dogs, but she displayed no play style at this time and would likely do best with a calmer dog.
