EVALUATION DATE: 2026-09-17 UPDATED THE LEGEND: ADULTS ONLY (REC) i DOG SOCIAL SKILLS: LARGE DOGS OK i ENERGY LEVEL: HIGH i TRAINING RECOMMENDATION: IMPULSE CONTROL i EVALUATION COMMENTS: The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out'or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. Al A5796803 (Intact) was allowed to decompress prior to the assessment. He stood still with a relaxed pant and a neutral body posture, allowing his ears, mouth, tail, abdomen, and legs to be handled. However, Al became highly uncomfortable anytime his legs were touched, causing him to tense up and close his mouth, though he did not escalate further. His body relaxed once his legs were released. Once the session concluded, Al was returned to his kennel, but he became reactive toward his neighbor as the handler attempted to guide him into the kennel. He barked and growled as he pulled strongly, requiring the handler to apply firm leash guidance. Once he was led into the kennel, Al allowed the leash to be retrieved without issue. Due to his size and strength, an experienced owner is highly recommended who can patiently work on managing his impulsive behavior and improving his tolerance for handling, particularly of his legs.
