Squeeks
German Shepherd
Urgent: 1 Day Left
Scheduled: October 18, 2026
Reason: Other
Squeeks is an adoptable female German Shepherd looking for a home at Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control in West Palm Beach, Florida. She is a young adult and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with just one day left, listed due to other. Adopting Squeeks, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.
Intake Info: Squeeks A2346368 was found outside the source's home and while she was in our shelter lobby she displayed fearfulness behavior. Medical: Unable to complete processing due to behavioral concerns. Monthly preventatives were given. Staff Notes: Squeeks was fearful during intake and showed her teeth and growled when a staff member attempted to leash her. She was handleable with the finder and repeatedly sought comfort by hiding behind their legs. Squeeks is highly motivated by squeaky toys, which helped encourage her to walk to and enter her kennel. She initially displayed significant reactivity toward staff, including a stiff body posture, high tail carriage, short, stiff wags, whale eye, and persistent barking. She was placed on the behavior list for further assessment. Behavior Notes: Squeeks has shown progress during subsequent assessments in quieter environments with squeaky toys and tennis balls. She has approached handlers to sniff them, particularly when they are not directly looking at her, and has tolerated gentle petting on her head, back, and hindquarters from multiple people. She also allowed staff to leash her by the collar and accepted simultaneous gentle petting from two handlers. However, she remains cautious around people by walking away when they approach. Loud noises, including machinery and highway traffic, have also frightened her. She appears more comfortable when given space, allowed to approach at her own pace, and engaged through toys. Request to Rescues: Squeeks is a beautiful girl who urgently needs a rescue who can provide a calm, low-stress environment and continued positive socialization. Although she has made progress and will approach people on her own terms, she remains wary of handling and needs time to build trust to support safer interactions with caregivers.
